Any thoughts on Poly chokes?

I have an Ithaca Model 37 20 guage that I am wanting a choke for. It is currently un-threaded, so I know I'll have to get that done first but has anyone here heard of or used a selectable choke called Poly-choke?

+'s or -'s if so?

Poly chokes are bad juju. Been around forever. Let me see if I can dig something up

Cool. If anybody else has some better suggestions too I'm all ears.

Looks like they still make the 37. Current models are cut and threaded for Briley choke tubes. I have some Briley tubes (Browning Midas and Diana grades) for my Browning silver. Excellent stuff.

So, I would see if I could get one of those barrels that fits my gun, buy some Briley tubes, and wind up with one helluva scatter gun.

Poly's are butt ugly regardless of how they function and that is all I have for you on Poly's. Why not have your current barrel reamed and tapped for a "real" choke?

Edit...Never mind the threading. Just re-read your post. But thats what I would do if it were mine.

Wasn't aware that it was an available option. That's better than popping for a new barrel.

They are as ugly as those old mesh satelite dishes people used to have in their yards. If the barrel isnt too thin, it can be tapped for screw in chokes. Personally, I'd shop around for another barrel. The Ithaca 37 is one fine shotgun, and the 20 guage commands quite a premium over the 12.

I've used a Polychoke for years on my 12 ga Ithaca. Killed a lot of pheasants too. I don't have any problem with them.

+1. I love my Winchester model 50 12ga. with Polychoke. It's my favorite shotty.

Didn't mean to make it sound like they'll blow up your gun. They just don't pattern as well as good extended tubes. Extended tubes are more expensive too. A poly choke is 100 bucks, and good extended tubes are gonna cost $40 or so each. I think I paid closer to 50 for this one...
