German P-38 from SOG?

Has anyone purchased one of the P-38s that SOG has had for sale for a while? Kinda curious just how good of condition they're in. SOG has always impressed me, but a buddy of mine bought one of the Garands they were selling a while back (before the most recent shipment) and he said it was the most beat up hunk of junk he's ever seen try to pass as a rifle. I haven't seen it yet, but am rather curious how bad it is.

The guys on arfcom aren't extremely fond of SOG but I can't really complain about them. And their customer service seems to be pretty good if you do get a piece of junk.

Well I bit the bullet and just ordered one. I'll let you guys know what I think of it when it arrives.

Well, not bad for the price. Bore looks decent. Some light pitting in the barrel, but it looks like it'll be an ok shooter.

It's a byf 43 (Mauser manufacture).

looks like a nice one to me! May I ask how much?

They're currently reduced to $389. If that's not incentive for someone to get a C&R, I dunno what is!

At D&T we have one for $400. 1960 date. looks really good and clean. Everything matches except the mags. I'm not up on my p38 pricing and history, so are there any special markings or stamps that are more important than others?

thats a helluva deal, especially for a wartime piece! I cant wait for my C&R to come through. As far as post war models idk about markings or anything but here is a current importers pricing. Welcome to Samco Global Arms, Inc..

I'm far from an expert on them and don't know what exactly makes some worth LOTS of money. I do know that the wartime (Nazi Proofed) models that are all matching fetch a good price compared to other models. The post-war models (like Samco's and the one in your shop) and non-matching Nazi models (like SOG's) seem to go for anywhere from $400 to $450 from what I've seen. Maybe an expert will pop in and give us some more guidance. ;)
