Mounting a rail to handguard on AR15

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Alright, let me begin by saying I am mechanically challenged...and this probably isn't that difficult. I ordered a el-cheapo rail to attach to my handguard so that I could mount a combination bi-pod/vertical grip. It only has a few screws etc., but I can't figure out how to install it on my handguard...any suggestions...didn't come with directions.

This is the last piece to having my AR ready for action...just installed the Millett DMS / Burris P.E.P.R. mount. Thanks!

Usually it bolts on right under the fore grip.

These instructions are for a standard model.

1. Make sure the gun is safe.

2. Place the butt of the rifle on the ground with the barrel pointing up.

3. At what is now the bottom of the fore grip there is a retention ring that wraps all the way around

4. If you do not have a special tool made for this you will need 2 people. One of you presses the ring down and the other pulls the bottom part of the fore grip outward. (It is two pieces and usually splits in half without much difficulty)

5. Bolt the rail onto the bottom half of the fore grip.

6. Reassemble in the opposite order.

The brand is a barska...I finally figured out how to install last night (realized I couldn't hold down the ring and pull apart, so had the wife lend a hand). Not sure if it will hold up, probably will spring for a quad rail, I don't think the screws will hold up during shooting (maybe a little loctite). Thanks for the help!
