I received this via email. Posting it here for those who may be interested. --David

TENNESSEE FIREARMS ASSOCIATION, INC.

LEGISLATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE

The Nashville January meeting would normally be scheduled for the third

Tuesday which would be the 15th this month. It has come too us pretty quick.

I have talked with a few of those who have been attending and am getting

mixed interests about meeting next week to talk about what I was planning to

address and that is "What is TFA and where is it going next."

I would also like some quick feedback on whether to keep meeting at APPS or

possibly try to move the meeting to a restaurant and get one of the meeting

rooms. This would not necessarily be an every month change but I am thinking

more of a meet, eat, visit and talk session for January.

What about meeting on the 15th at a restaurant for pizza, Chinese buffet,

Golden Coral, Ryan's, Shoney's or other similar types of casual locations

that tend to having meeting space?

Also, we are looking at a speaker for February who will be talking about

the Tennessee Military Collectors Association and sharing some information

on Class III firearms.

Please take any responses to this thread so everyone can participate:

Neither do I, but I wanted to pass it along to anyone who might be interested. Anything I say further might be considered TGO's official stance on the TFA, so I'd rather avoid that and just state that my weekday evenings have become increasingly busy and I don't have the spare time to devote to a TFA meeting at present.

I'm still game for the January 19th TGO middle-Tenn. meet, eat & shoot though.

Hot off the presses...

UPDATE

There will not be a Nashville chapter meeting in January.

I spoke with Buford Tune at APPS on Wednesday and he will not be available

on the 15th which means that the APPS facilities are not available. Couple

that with the notice that I received on the 15th that I will be in court in

Stewart County that afternoon and the fact that Nashville presently does not

have a chapter leader means that pulling together the meeting likely will

not work.

At this point, we are proposing to have the next meeting on February 19th at

APPS which will be, we hope, the discussion from Mr. Price with the Military

Collectors Association to talk about Class III weapons. I was planning to

have Representative Ben West from Nashville talk at the March meeting.

TFA's Nashville chapter is going to need someone to handle the monthly

meeting issues. I do not think that Buford or I have the ability to take on

that extra responsibility at this point. If you are interested, contact me.

In addition, I received a suggestion from an individual who has attended

several of the Nashville meetings that we think about doing them quarterly

rather than monthly and to combine them with a gun range gathering or some

other activity.

I will no longer be posting anything about the TFA Nashville chapter here on TGO in the events section until the chapter has a few regularly scheduled meetings under it's belt.

So far the meeting notices have gone like this:

  • Day One: Meeting is scheduled for XXXXX day.
  • Day Three: Meeting is canceled.
  • Day Four: No, meeting is back on for XXXXX day.
  • Day Nine: Meeting is canceled again, for real this time.
  • Day Ten: Someone asks if there's going to be a meeting.

The bottom line is, there doesn't appear to be any hope. This is why I created TGO; because we can meet here 24/7 independent of the weather conditions, personal schedules, etc. You can meet here in your underwear if you want and you can even carry while drinking a beer as long as you're doing it in your own home.

I couldn't help but notice that the TFA is looking for another president for the Nashville chapter. Great. :D

...too sad.

I don't understand why it's so hard to get a chapter going here. But I have to side W/ you Tungsten....it's like bailing the water out of a bot once it's sitting on the bottom of the lake.

Great News!

The TFA meeting is definitely on. Tuesday, Jan. 15th, we will be meeting, greeting, and eating at Shoney's next to the LP Stadium (110 Interstate Drive), starting at 6:30 P.M.

This will be mainly an informal meeting. John said he was going to try to be there, if he can get back to Nashville in time.

Suggested topics:

what kind of speakers to have,

what kind of things would we like to work on or learn about,

where would we like to meet (restaurants, meeting rooms, APPS,

gun ranges, etc.)

or Anything you want to talk about

Also, people, who want to be officers, come tell us about yourselves. We'll be electing officers in the near future. Anyone who wants to volunteer to help in anyway, please feel free to do so.

With your help, we can be successful.

Hasn't this "meeting" been done to death? Multiple times over?

How about a meeting that doesn't require "John" to be be there.

How about a group that actually does something?

Thank you Tungsten. I believe, if we meet, get our purpose worked out, and work together, we can be make the Nashville chapter successful. With the legislature in Nashville, it can only help the gun cause.

Just so there's no misunderstanding and so that you know what you're dealing with... I'm sitting this out. I was pretty gung-ho to see the Nashville chapter be revived but having seen countless iterations of the meetings being canceled, back on again, no - canceled, whoops back on again... I'm just done with it.

I only have so many hours of free time and I detest having it wasted or having my schedule jerked around. So far, both of those are things that I can with a clear conscience accuse the Nashville chapter of doing.

If the chapter gets traction and does something productive with the meeting times, I will re-evaluate my personal stance on it and possibly attend again. Otherwise, TGO is where you'll find me putting my energy.

Again, good luck. You have a very uphill battle ahead of you.

Tungsten, there was no misunderstanding, I was thanking you for your kind words. I agree with you that we were spinning our wheels. There were many good ideas suggested, but nothing ever happened. No one, as for as I know, even wrote them down. I agree with dunndw that we need officers, and wanted to follow with his plan for electing them. I couldn't remember whether he recommended nominating them in Jan. and electing them in Feb. or later. Also, we need to follow the meeting schedule we made, no matter who may or maynot be there. Right now we are at the same place we were when we started meeting. Now is the time for us to get our act together and do something. I'm sorry, but understand why you will not be making this meeting, your ideas and leadership will be missed.

The things you're attributing to Danny Dunn were my ideas as I outlined in previous posts here. I spent a lot of time at the meetings and afterward writing down the things you're saying no one wrote down, and still have a legal pad full of them. I'd be glad to forward you my notes if you want them.

It really doesn't matter; I'm just pointing out that I tried to invest into this organization to no avail. My energy seems to be best directed into continuing to make TGO a place for folks to meet without concern for schedules.

It seems to me that a lot of time and effort is going into explaining why nothing has been done.

If half that time and effort had been put into fixing the problem, it would have been fixed.

Tungsten, Sorry that I got your ideas mixed up with Danny's. I know both of you were at the meetings and put a lot into them. Yes, I would love for you to forward your notes to me.

There is no question you invested a lot into TFA and it is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

yep... The last meeting I attended all I did was toss out the ideas that David and I talked about openly in the previous meeting. He made the notes, we had some PMs/e-mails about TFA things...then the next meeting was canceled, and...that was that.

TGO is a great example of what can happen when people invest their time and people are willing to help.

I wish nothing but the best for the TFA, and if the meetings work out then I'll also look at attending. Sitting in a room and listening to people plan not to meet was counterproductive at the least....actually it pissed me off and made me feel like I was wasting my time even bothering with it.
