So after carrying for 4+ years and not having been even pulled over in 6+ years, I finally got pulled over today.

Memphis PD in North precinct no less, where I know LITERALLY almost every police officer from the LT. down. Well not this one, just my luck.

So my official weigh in on the "what to do" debate. I rolled down the window, left my seatbelt on, and rested my hands on the window just kinda drumming my fingers. He came up, asked for my license, I said " Officer just letting ya know I have a carry permit and my gun is on my hip, what would you like me to do?" He asked where my license was, told him right pocket, he asked if I minded stepping out just to hand him my license, I said sure, did so, he barely glanced at my permit, said "Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate that." I said no problem, told him what I did and where I worked, and that I understood. He smiled, nodded, and then wrote me a ticket for running a stop sign. WAH WAH WAHHHHHHH

All in all though he was nice, professional, and it was my fault. Was glad he was cool about it and it did feel nice that he thanked me for letting him know.

So not to start the endless debate, which I'm sure it's inevitable, but I've never had a "got pulled over while carrying" story until today so I wanted to ride the share bus too!

If you hadn't dropped the dime on that 8.50 an hour job he probably would have let you off with a warning.

i would have played it just as you did with the exception of offering to stop twice at the next stop sign if he let me go.

Lol...I have been pulled over 2 or 3 times and except for the last time I always got a warning. I roll down the windows and if its dark put the interior lights on. Set both hands on the door(like the op) and let the officer know. the first 2 said thanks and the 3rd said "i dont care" lol. However the first 2 did let me go with a warning.

Well in my defense, I didn't run it. It was a 4 way, no traffic, I came to all but a full stop and then rolled on. I'm just not gonna argue semantics with an officer on the side of the road. He obviously wanted to write a ticket today so I guess i was just the lucky one.

I single handedly killed all the myths though today. Permit, Army service bumper sticker, a job that is known for getting cut breaks, pleasant demeanor, etc all no dice lol

Even though I didn't notify the last time I was stopped (and all was just fine) I have always said if I thought the officer would see it or find it I would tell him before he "discovered" it. That would include if I had to pass my hand right by it to get my walet.

That's what I did when I got stopped for speeding (68 in a 55... got a warning ).

Cop (after I handed him my DL & HCP) - Where's your gun?

Me - In my bag (in the seat next to me).

Cop - Ok, leave it there. Thanks for telling me.

The last time I got pulled over, I was doing 55 in a 45. First time (and only time so far) I got pulled over while carrying. Gave up my permit and license together. The officer glanced at both, told me to slow down, and let it go at that. In and out in 60 seconds flat.

I was recently stopped the first time while carrying. I was on I-40 heading to UT medical center to visit my friend in the hospital. KPD said I changed lanes w/o a turn signal(he was wrong, I did signal) however I was speeding. 65 in a 55. He walked up to my passenger side and told me why I he pulled me over. He then asked to see my ID. I was pretty nervous I'll admit, so I said, "yes sir but before I reach back there......" he stopped me right there and said, "do you have a gun"? I said yes sir I have one on my hip and one in my pocket. He said, "that's no problem just let me see you information and I'll be right back" He also said that a HCP was the best investment anyone could make these days.

He came back less than 60 seconds and told me to drive safer and have a nice day. No ticket. He was the most professional officer I have come across and I've been pulled over 11 times now.

No victim no crime. Unless you count him as the victim - he will have to waste his time to fight it, or pony up his property at the threat of violence.

I was (and am) of the mind that I will not inform if I am stopped while carrying, but last stop I had my Glock sitting on the passenger seat - I knew if I made a move towards it to put it in the glovebox or under the seat the officer would see and be suspicious - SO, I left it there, put both hands on the steering wheel with my license and permit in the left hand ready to present. He got to my window, asked why I didnt have driveout tags (new car and I got a discount for getting the tags myself - long story). I knew he had seen the gun at that point and I was already nervous and I dropped my damn permit when handing it to him. I froze, and he laughed and said "Go ahead and grab your permit, I see your pistol and its not a problem". He then told me he would be right back after he ran my license and to please put my gun in the glovebox while he did it. 5 minutes later I was on my way, no warning and no ticket. And this was in Memphis! Super professional job by this particular officer. There are some assjack cops in Memphis but most (NOT all but the majority) are good guys that understand this city is a crimeridden ****ehole and us lowly citizens cant depend on the cops to be everywhere...Kudos to the MPD in this case!

Nope and I could have dropped plenty or just had the LT make the scene lol In all seriousness though I just don't do that crap. Unless I had really just been treated like crap on a BS stop I'm not gonna make a stink. I rolled a stop sign, the officer was pleasant and professional, and he gave me a citation instead of a break. That's the way the cookie crumbled lol

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I don't really see why there's any need for comments about whether traffic laws are right or wrong, because Punisher hasn't complained about getting the citation. The thread was about his experience in getting pulled over while carrying. Traffic laws are put there for a reason, and enforcement of those laws is to help keep innocent people from becoming victims. I agree that rolling through a stop sign when there aren't any other vehicles around isn't much of a crime, but I can also say that LEO's in this area enforce stop sign laws alot more than they do red light laws.
