Chinese 5.8mm

Recommended Posts

Anybody got any info on the new chinese assault rifle, QBZ-95, in 5.8x42mm or the pistol, QSZ-92 in 5.8x21mm ?

I searched around and about all I can find out is that for some reason the US wont import a semi-auto version of the rifle or any chinese ammo.

Why China feels a need to be different from nearly every other country in the world, IDK.

I can't say why that is either, but it's been their thing for several thousand years. Here's my best guess:

The most logical explanation is political - Chinese soldiers using 100% Chinese-designed and manufactured weapons can be marketed as a point of pride for the country as a whole. It's a big win to not have to rely on the Russians for your own tools of self-defense. If you were to also trumpet the superiority of those weapons to those built by other countries, so much the better. The propaganda writes itself, and China has loads of knowledge in the area of popular perception manipulation, after all.

Even commies value self-reliance; it's just done on a national level, as opposed to an individual one.

I saw an article about the pistol in American Handgunner (I think). But I gave my back issues to someone who can't afford them so I don't have them to look it up. They concluded that it was no better then a 5.7 x 28mm they suggested that the purpose was for an armor piercing pistol. IIRC they tested some of it and deterimed that it might pierce soft armor but that was about it.
