Shooting golf balls at 330 yards is quite a feat. But I’m in Murfreesboro and have a DPMS LR-308AP4. It’s not set-up right now with a scope capable of doing that, but I guess I could mount my Leupold VX-III 6.5X20X40 LR on it. If you want to try it let me know and we can go down to Walden’s place; its 300 meters.

Walden's is where I shoot golf balls. It's not very difficult. I have brought many people out and let them shoot my rifles. Most can hit golf balls fairly regularly before the end of the day.

Everyone is coming out with whatever you are looking for soon. If you wait for that you will die of old age while waiting. If you buy the first versions you regret it. The second or third are always better. Just like cars, computers, smart phones, ......

I prefer something that is out now and has been out long enough for some credible reviews and a couple of fixes, recalls, revisions, improvements, .....

That seriously limits the choices in this market.

Consider that any M1A will need work on it to make it consitant to 1000 yards.. Last year. The Army Marksmenship Unit start toying with the M-110 and now regularly use it in Long Range Service Rifle matches. Grant Singley, this year won the Porter Throphy at Camp Perry shooting one.. Any rifle will need work to shoot accurately out to 1000 yards and there are some platforms that shouldn't even be considered working with. The Marines are still using M1A's and the Navy is still using M1 Garands.. but that is beginning to change, the Navy is looking at moving over to the M-110 as well. I will be picking up one of those Navy Throphy rifles soon, can't wait! All of them are in .308. Also, you will have to tune your load to your rilfe platform, 175 or heavier.. the Army is using Berger 185BT's as is most others are now using as well. I have not seen any type of Nato nation service rifle that can compete with the M1A or the M-110 at 1000 yards. There is no support for those platforms. Yeah there cool for up close and personal.. and you tacticool dudes.. but if you want precision, it is best to pick a US Service Rifle platform to build upon. What ever you choose.. the first thing that you most likely will have to do is change the bbl.. it is a given unless you buy a already National Match rifle, the bbl will not have the correct twist rate.. unless you choose a .30 cal platform, anything with 10 twist to 12 twist will work.. Your most critical factor is bbl length and sight radius. You will need a very good trigger as well. There are up grades for US platforms, not any that I know of for the other service rifles of other countries. But if you really want to learn what works and what don't, start showing up at matches and CMP clinics and you will learn a boat load of info.. it will come at you so fast that it will make your head swim.. run and gun shooting and all is ok.. but if you really want a mind blowing confunction of your brain, try some long range prone shooting! It will occupy your mind for the rest of your life! You only have to learn a few key elements , sight alignment and wind reading, sight alignment and wind reading.. oh yeah.. sight alignment and wind reading.. and of course trigger control.. anyone can do it..
