Storm Lake barrel broke my Glock

Installed my Storm Lake barrel in my Glock 27 today and went to the range. After the first round, I knew I had a problem. This damned barrel made my G27 shoot better than it was ever designed to shoot. I couldn't believe it, round after round kept going exactly where I wanted them to and I couldn't make it jam for the life of me. 200 rounds of WWB and 1 box of Speer Gold Dot later, I had to quit. I was scared someone would sneak up behind me and think I could shoot.

Seriously, I've never claimed to be a good shot, because I'm not. When I can make 20 round groupings into 5 inches with a Glock 27 at 30 feet (10 yrds), I'm impressed (I couldn't do that at 5yrds with the factory barrel). I think I'll keep this barrel on the gun because it's a winner.

Also, shot my CZ SP-01 Phantom for the first time, today. It's also a winner, but either it doesn't like my preferred 9mm load (Cor Bon 115gr) or I'm anticipating that kick a little too much because I was making 6 inch groups at 25yrds with WWB but when I changed over to the Cor Bon, I only hit my target (6 inch circle) 6 out of 20 shots at the same distance. No jams noted. Think I can safely carry now after 250 rounds without a hiccup but I may need to rethink my preferred load.

Did I mention that my arms are sore now?

I replaced my G27 barrel also with great results. I replaced it with a Kimber Ultra RCP and the difference is amazing!

Other side effect of Storm Lake barrel on a Glock 27 one should be concerned with

Nausea

Dry mouth

Diarrhea or constipation

Problems with sexual health

Dizziness

Problems sleeping

Drowsiness

Weight changes

Anxiety/agitation

If you don't have any of those problems you are probably good to go.

I have never heard of replacing the barrel with a non-oem type. Can someone explain how this would increase accuracy?

Tighter tolerances, more precise rifling. A barrel closer to match grade will produce better accuracy. Depending on certain factors it could also make a firearm less reliable. A standard Glock barrel is made to provide adequate accuracy and consistent reliability. I have a Storm Lake and Lone Wolf barrel and both are more accurate than the OEM barrel. So far they are also as reliable.

However I found that a new barrel does not fix the shooter but a different configuration of gun helps as it is all personal preference and personal compatibility with different types of weapons.

Also, let's not discount psychology. There are professional baseball players who'll SWEAR that they play better if they never wash their lucky jersey, or only play with a certain pair of lucky cleats, or bury their lucky batting helmet in the back yard before the big game. None of that makes nearly as much sense as the logical arguments for a replacement barrel, but those pro players probably wouldn't do it, if they didn't have results to reinforce their superstition. They probably play better, because the BELIEVE they will play better. Even if the two barrels were effectively identical, a guy might shoot better with the replacement barrel, just because he's minding his P's and Q's more, to see if he can tell a difference. That said, I happen to know that they take their barrel machining pretty seriously over at Storm Lake.

So, in synopsis, psychology didn't help me even a little bit. If anything, it maybe hindered even better performance.

I bought mine for two reasons. One I bought them in 9mm to shoot in my 40 cals. Two I can use lead if I so choose, though I rarely choose to shoot lead.

I know my aftermarket barrels are more accurate merely because I tested them on a rest. I was just curious. When shot offhand I am more accurate and faster with the aftermarket barrel, but mostly attribute this to the fact that I have shot 9mm so long I am more comfortable with it in general. I would say in general terms, either the OEM or the SL, LW barrels can outperform me. I do, but rarely do, meet shooters who can outperform their OEM equip on a top level firearm. They are mostly competitive shooters, who could outshoot me any day of the week if we switched guns and I shot their performance gun and they my stock gun.

I bought a LWD barrel for my G19 to shoot lead. So far, just like the OEM barrel, it's more accurate than I am.

To the OP, I'm glad you like the barrel. I was shocked when I saw the thread title, but was pleasantly relieved to read the original post.

Here's what I'm getting at - The Storm Lake barrel might imbue the pistol with greater potential mechanical consistency than was the case with the OEM barrel, but... it wouldn't likely be a night/day difference. When you see such a dramatic increase in accuracy as you've described, at a mere 10yds, the improvement is FAR more likely coming from the shooter, than the new barrel (unless the OEM barrel in your gun was somehow profoundly flawed). You should give yourself more credit for your improved shooting.
