a comment in the Should physicians ask about guns lead me think about Restaurats

Recommended Posts

I almost hijacked the other thread but felt this could stand on it's own

I went fo r a Drug Screening yesterday. It turned out to be a Drug/Physical. I left the gun in the car, but kept my holster on. Doc asked me to pull up my tshirt, ok. Whats that? A holster. Long pause..........OK. Next.

Lets twist this one a bit, lets say a HCP decided to eat at a property posted restaurant.

Dam, the place is posted but I really want to eat there for some reason, dam good burgers or you have family insisting.

You disarm and leave your pistol in your Truck, but Keep your Holster on your side in OC mode, empty. You get inside, have your order placed and some Weasel (that works there) comes up and tells you, you can't carry and ask you in some terms to leave.

Ask for your bill on the spot for what you have consumed-minus what they have not brought you yet, insist you wish to see the top manager since you followed the rules and are being harassed. Tell the manager you will never be back, leave your No Guns, no cash card alone with no tip.

I've done that hundreds of times...I think that is OK and is proper protocol for places that are posted. Some of my holsters are hard to get off without taking my belt off. Anybody that gives me a hard time about a holster clearly doesn't understand I am trying to comply with the posting. I don't think that would be an issue unless you get somebody who is basically nuts (ha - after thinking about it, there are a lot of nuts out there...just don't let them see your holster). B

Err....this really erks me! Please tip your server.

They have absolutely nothing to do with a restaurant's no gun policy.

why would the ask you to leave for wearing an empty holster?

Stage 4 sheeple disease. It's moot to me. I won't go past a sign anyway. Disarming, and then wearing a holster in the open is just poking the bear. The "no guns no money" card doesn't really mean anything if you hand it to them WITH your money.

Slightly off, but I think still relevant comment. I was in the Same Day Procedure waiting room at Skyline Hospital last week and noticed a middle-age trim man in shorts and a tucked in polo shirt. As he walked by I noticed a rather large kydex holster on his belt. It was empty of course, but he was getting a lot of looks from the staff and some of the people sitting, with an ocassional finger pointing as he went to the desk. I simply said hello to him as he walked by and patted my right front pocket where my carry usually stays. He smiled, nodded and went on. I did notice the rental security eyeball him and watch till he left the area. Where it went from there I don't know. My point is that an empty holster shouldn't garner so much attention, but in all likelyhood, if it's visible, it will. There are just places and situations that make carrying, even empty, stand out like a sore thumb.

Well, I guess my line of thought was a Holster showing on the outside of my leg and the top sightly covered on the top by a shirt, a person might not know if you are actually carrying or not.

The part about a tip, was aimed at if you ended up leaving before eating your meal, such as if you where being ask to leave.

Hell, they probably would not say anything to you if you did walk in with a Holster.

When I eat out at a tip place I do tip well.

But yea, I prefer not to give them any Money, Lincolns in Oak Ridge had good food, I went there once when they opened right before the restaurant bill passed, plus I didn't have my HCP either so i did not matter. The food was good, They charged my credit card 3 times for the meal, which I had to get fixed, so I really don't plan to eat there any more anyways.

I think I was wanting to show places they can lose customers by not serving HCP carriers, but I guess they know that.

Well this was just thinking here, this is nothing I did or anything. I guess I was trying to get some thoughts on how to get business owners to see customers they are losing by posting.

I think I was looking for a more proactive way then just not attending a business.

I Guess in the long run, best just to avoid those business' all together.

Bounced my ideas here, was showed the error of my thoughts.

Just as you protect your life by carrying a gun; some business owners see this as protecting their business from lawsuits. Others are simply are anti-gun.

They know what they are doing when they post the signs. To threaten them with the loss of business is laughable; that is a dog with no teeth. Stiffing your server is taking it out on someone that has nothing to do with it; the person that posted still get their money but we look like azzhats.

If you feel that strongly about it, talk to the owner in a calm rational manner without threatening his business and see what happens. Also we need legislation that exempts business owners from a lawsuit if an HCP holder is involved in a shooting in their business. I doubt that will happen because so many legislators are lawyers; but it’s worth a try.

If I am asked to leave an eatery for any reason before I am done and pay my bill, no one gets my money. First, if I am asked to leave and do not immediately do so, then I am trespassing and can go to jail for it. A server should not expect a tip from a possible paying customer if that customer is asked to leave the restaurant before completing his meal. If the owner does this enough, then the server will look for a job elsewhere and probably be vocal about it. Perhaps the owner loses his entire wait staff at once. Would love to see that happen to Rayburn.

And we wonder why gun owners often get portrayed as ass holes ;)

I don't think the HCP is being ass for being angry. In the hypothetical situation, he is doing nothing wrong, but is still being asked to leave.

Really, you don't need an HCP to wear an empty holster around and you aren't breaking any rules.

Breaking the rules is not the problem.

The problem is stiffing someone who has nothing to do with a restaurant's policy. Stiffing them even though they did their job in waiting on you.

It's no different then stiffing your pizza delivery guy because of a Dominoes policy.

It makes absolutely no sense and will only make you out to being a douche.

Some people get worked up over this every time it comes up. :D

Has anyone ever been cited or arrested for carrying past a sign?

Wearing an empty holster is just asking for a problem. Don’t whine when it presents itself.

I see this as no different from, say, the place's fire alarm going off. You just leave, you don't mess with tipping any more than you hang around for a drink refill. For that matter, what if you don't have cash (were going to pay w/ card)?

Myself...I could care less if Im portrayed as "an *******". Why would I care what you, or anyones elses opinion of me is? Theres nothing you can do about it, so if they dont like it, shouldnt have asked me to leave, imo.

The day I do/dont do something I think is right, on account I worried somebody might think Im an *******, hell will freeze.

When some of you get a little older ,you might understand that.

The place catching on fire is nothing like being ask to leave.

Unless of coarse you catch the place a blaze for kicking you out

Well, I'm glad that you're old enough to think stiffing people is right.

Me, I'm still young enough to know that people serving me need to get paid :)

Is that something directed towards me?

When your kajones start floating when you get in the bath tub.

when your kajones hit the water when you sit down to duece it up.

Straight Shooter that is some fine attitude, I don't care what people think of you, but I care what they think of me, I am guessing most of us care what others think of us. It is how we measure ourselves in society and life in general.

I would tip my server.
