I finally( been a year since I have seen it) saw some of this today at Walmart.

39.99 for a value pack box.

I did not buy any. Too much sticker shock.

When did this price increase happen? They sure did not clear it with me.

Sadly, I think they're playing catch-up to everyone else who sells ammo. I went to Bass Pro last night and browsed through the ammo selection. Looked like someone got drunk and went crazy with the price gun. Glad I reload!

I did get a 50 round box of Federal for 15.99, but it was the last in the case.

how are you doing that for less than .10 cents a round? Be specific

Scrounged Brass = $0

Self-cast boolits from old wheel weights that were free for the asking = $0

Primers that were given to me by the widow of a family friend = $0 (I'll have to go back to buying primers after the next 3,000 or so are done)

Powder is about $22 / pound locally. A pound of Unique will yield over 1200 rounds.

At that rate, they cost me about $0.91 per 50 rounds (and my time - which is free for me)

If I buy primers, which run about $4 with tax per 100 local (much cheaper in bulk by mail-order), it brings the price to $2.91 per 50 rounds.

If I also bought bullets, Missouri Bullet Co charges $36.00 for a 500 count box of 185gr SWC. Brings the investment to $6.51 per 50.

I've tried to keep a few rounds set back for each caliber, and buy a box whenever I have the money and opportunity, but lately it does seem to be getting out of hand. My brother-in-law and I have decided to buy a reloading setup and get started. I usually pick up and keep my brass when I shoot, so we have a fair supply of casings to get started with. And he'd bought a sonic cleaner last year, so we just need to get off the stick and get moving. He has the experience, I got the time, and we both need to save some $ on our habit. Seems like a good combination to me.

That's ok. Price's go up, people don't buy, prices come back down again. I'm seeing .40 and 9mm regularly at WM, and prices on those have dropped. 9mm used to be 10.50 for a while, and now it's back down to 9.50 for federal. RWS was 16 until it stayed on the shelves, and then it was back down to 12.50.

WWB 45 value packs are 34.95 at the Jacksboro WM. Federal 9mm is 9.96/50

Not much better, but a few $$ cheaper if you're ever up here. I bought 1 box of 45 the other day. I reload and some of my brass is starting to reach the end of its serviceable life. That 100rd box will give me 100 rounds to shoot and 100 pieces of brass to reuse for a while.

I found the money saved by reloading, resulted in larger purchases of reloading supplies.

I found some Federal red box at Wally World in Brentwood, TN for $15.97 per 50. Bought as much as I could...lol

I want to say the WWB was still $33 at a local Chattanooga Wal-Mart last weekend. The shelves were full EXCEPT for 380, 38 Special, 32 ACP, and I bought the last box of Federal 9mm.
