Dave,

I am all for what you said regarding removal of liabilities from the landowner when a third party commits a criminal/stupid act. However, companies have no right banning you from having something IN your car on their property.

Sure they do. Sometimes things are banned for legitimate reasons. Put yourself in the business owner’s position; it is not only their right but their responsibility to maintain a safe working environment for their employees.

There are places that ban Cameras, laptops, and recording devices on their property. Other places ban tobacco; other places ban matches, lighters, or any other source of a direct flame. You can drive your car onto most military installations but you can’t have a firearm in your car without written permission on most I have been on.

You could get legislation that would remove the liability of an employer, but I doubt you could get legislation that would remove the employer’s right to ban firearms. Is the state going to have some agency that decides who has a legitimate reason and who doesn’t? I don’t think so.

Your carry permit is a privilege the state has given you. This issue has you clashing with the rights of a business owner.

brian, I worked at Poplar and Kirby for six years. Forum II building. You anywhere near it?

I lucked out when I took this current job. When I asked my owner if he had a problem with me carrying to work (since we're in a BAD part of town and I arrive alone in the dark) he not only said feel free, but showed me his carry weapon. The next day he brought his wife's sidearm to show me what she carries. Then as the discussion progressed over the next few days, about 5 other men produced their carry weapons so I could get an idea of what I wanted to purchase. I feel sorry for the poor sap that tries to break in here. He'll certainly be met with serious opposition. :D

You know, I just have a real problem with any company that doesn't want its workers to be able to protect themselves. Sounds pretty un-American to me.

Wrong. Carry permits are nothing more than an infringement. The 2A says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The only reason I have mine, is protection. Not from criminals, from the government. Now, if I carry I need not worry about being tossed in jail, even though I should not need to worry anyway.

Imagine having to get a Religion permit to be allowed to own a Bible. It is the same style of violation of YOUR individual right.

As to what you said regarding what they can ban, I agree they can ban you from carrying on their property, as is their right. I disagree that they can determine what you keep inside your parked car.
