I need AR info

I've decided to build an EBR based on the AR platform. Can you guys recommend websites or printed material to help get me started? I know a minimal amount. All I want to know is everything, lol.

There is so much info at Ar15.com that you could spend a month there and not take it all in. Register and read. Have a thick skin if you ask a question. Don't be taken aback if people pounce on you for having a low post count. They have a pretty bad habit of that there. Just take it in stride.

I second M4 carbine , they have lots of great info, and not as much BS to deal with. They do seem like a bunch of rich boys allot. Kind of the mentality that the Nova folks had when I was at Va Tech... Go Hokies But the info is real good and a lot of posters are know for there reputations.

This. Yes you will have some airsoft commandos now and then, but there are a lot of well known legit guys on there as well. Larry Vickers, Travis Haley, Todd Greene...etc.

Just remember you can get a spikes lower from aim for 69 smackers. Crazy deal on a lower, which pretty much everyone agrees, isn't as important as the upper.

Yes. The lower is the serial # part and has to go through an FFL.

How about some opinions on the M&P15?

I have the M&P15R 5.45x39 upper on a Spike's lower. It is awesome and has become my favorite AR, as I can actually afford to shoot it. It does require a little more maintenance, as I shoot the corrosive surplus through it, by far the best investment.

What's the shortest allowable bbl w/o getting a stamp for it? 14.5?

16" is the minimum bbl length. That can be reached with a shorter bbl (such as a 14.5) with a permanently attached flash hider that brings the total length to 16".
