NOTE: This is a mere informational posting, and not my endorsement of the candidate...

Many of Tennessee’s most respected conservative leaders have publically endorsed Zach Wamp in the last week as he has emerged as the candidate in the Republican primary with early voting already started.

Late last week, I publicly announced my support of Zach. I’ve been around long enough to know what’s right, and I don’t waste time in doing it. Earlier this month radio host and personal finance guru Dave Ramsey endorsed Zach and hosted a fundraising event at his home. The closer you look at this race, the faster you’ll come to the same conclusion. No office should ever be filled by a thinly run popularity contest, let’s not do it in this Governor’s race, Tennessee can’t stand it. Stand with me and elect Zach Wamp!

About Zach's Newest Supporters:

Dave Ramsey: “America’s Most Trusted Voice on Money and Business” endorsed Zach saying,” I’m convinced that Zach Wamp is the Governor that Tennessee needs at this crucial time in history to protect both our finances and our state sovereignty. I totally trust and endorse this man to govern the state I love.” In addition to his radio show which has 4.5 million listeners nationwide, Ramsey is a best-selling author.

Ronnie Barrett: Gun rights advocate and inventor of the famous Barrett 50-caliber rifle used by our military, Ronnie Barrett endorsed Zach and said, “Whenever Tennessee sportsmen and gun owners needed a friend in Congress, Zach Wamp stood strong with us to protect and defend our 2nd Amendment rights, that’s why he’s always received an A rating from the National Rifle Association.”

Jim Bryson: Former State Senator from Williamson County and 2006 Republican Nominee for Governor Jim Bryson threw his support behind Zach earlier this week. He had this to say,” Zach has a strong record of uniting people for the common good. He is the right man to lead Tennessee forward in the challenging times ahead.”

Jack Faris: Once called the “most influential small business leader in the nation” by Fortune Magazine, Faris led the NFIB from 1992-2006. Faris endorsed Zach saying, “For 14 years I’ve known Zach to be a consistent strong voice and vote for small business,” said Faris. “He is the strong effective leader with a conservative record that Tennessee needs for our children’s future.”

Please forward this email to your friends and ask them to join these CoTennessee leaders and Vote for Zach Wamp!

I, too, am wondering why he is getting endorsements from Conservatives like Dave Ramsey and Rich of "Big and Rich." Anyone know the "why?"

That kind of had me shaking my head as well. Especially Dave Ramsey endorsing Wamp who voted for TARP funding.
Just shows how effective Wamp is at blowing smoke up skirts.

Yep.

Ramsey and Barret exposed themselves with this endorsement.

Wamp always seemed to be a pretty dim bulb. Unless he is so smart that he cunningly pretends to be a dim bulb. I don't think he's smart enough to do that.

I try to stay out of the political stuff on here but what the hell, most people on here hate Zach and love Ramsey. Well I have had a few one on one talks with Zach and yes he is a typical politician but I dont think he is a bad as portrayed on TGO. Maybe Barrett and Dave Ramsey know that Ramsey doesnt stand a chance and want to make sure the tool bag mayor of Knoxville doesnt get into office.

He probably paid them for it in some way, like a donation, etc.

I like Wamp, and would not have a problem voting for him even though he completely sucked on TARP. However, I believe Ramsey is the better candidate. In regards to Barrett and Dave Ramsey endorsing Wamp, who cares? Personally, I think Dave Ramsey is nothing more than an entertainer who makes millions by giving people commonsense advice on how to handle money. It isn't all that complex. If you continually spend more than you make, you will go broke. If you spend less than you make, then you will save.

I may be a little too harsh on Dave, but if he is the principled fiscal conservative as he portrays himself, then I don't see how he can openly endorse Wamp for governor without speaking about his disagreement with Wamp on TARP. Even if he is trying to make sure Haslam doesn't get the nomination, I believe people would be more understanding and receptive with honesty. If Dave said, "I really like Ron Ramsey. He would be my primary choice for governor. However, due to the unique situation of the mayor of Knoxville trying to buy his way to the nomination and Ron Ramsey's lack of name recoginition, I will be endorsing Wamp for governor. Even though I was in disagreement with Wamp's decision on TARP, he has been a consistent conservative for 16 years while in Washington."

Maybe I'm just a little weird, but hearing a message like that (or something similiar) would speak volumes to me. It says two things. The situation is dire, and Haslam is really that bad. Personally, I don't think there are any political calculations or strategy going on here. I think they are friends, and that is why they are endorsing Wamp. If I am wrong and there is a political calculation here, I am wondering how far the the time table needs to be slid back when trying to get the best candidate the nomination. I always thought that was the purpose of the primary.

I don't have anything against Wamp. Am just not convinced that he is smart enough to run a state. Have never seen him say anything remotely creative.

If he can be repeatedly fooled by "experts" in Washington, then he can get repeatedly fooled by "experts" in Nashville.

Dunno any of the other guys well enough to know if there is anybody better in this governor's race.

I remember back in the 1970's when Franklin Haney was running for guv. Franklin was the opposite of dim, and also the opposite of "above-board". We missed a bullet on that one.

I'm disappointed that Dave Ramsey endorsed Wamp. Barret, I really cant say much as I know very little about the man or his views. His endorsement doesn't mean much of anything to me.

Dave Ramsey's endorsement reflects a lot, but not as it was meant. In my eyes, it reflects more on Dave than it does Wamp. I can see Wamp's lack of character, the way he was scared into voting for TARP. The fact that Dave endorsed him doesn't help Wamp any, it only takes Dave Ramsey down a peg or two in my eyes. I've been a fan of his for years, and the common sense principles he teaches have worked for me. This endorsement doesn't fit with all the "Fire them, send them home" rhetoric he was broadcasting on his radio show when the bailouts were happening. I can see Wamp's lack of character, instead of boosting him, this endorsement only makes me question Dave Ramsey's character.

By "the federal government imposing their different 'ways,'" does he mean the McDonald decision that mandates that all states abide by the second amendment? I don't see the "tough times coming" he is talking about with regards to the 2nd amendment. This smells like pork. I would be surprised if Barrett Firearms doesn't make a lot of hay from government contracts.

I've seen several people saying that Ramsey will not win as their excuse for voting for another candidate. This displays a fundamental lack of understanding of their responsibility as a voter.

The purpose of voting is not to vote for a 'winner'. The purpose of voting is to show your selection of the person best suited for the job. If you are not voting for the person you believe is best suited, you end up with unsuitable people. Your vote should not depend upon opinion polls, talking heads, or Britney Spears' opinions. The only thing that matters is YOUR opinion of who is best for the position.

And this love/hate thing is really silly as well. I don't know anyone who really 'love's or 'hates' a particular candidate. Generally they prefer one candidate over another. While I believe that Ramsey would be the best person for the job of TN Governor, Wamp as governor would not be the end of the world. I think that the Legislature could keep his Federalist and free-spending tendancies in check. And while Constitutional Carry and making TN gun laws make sense might take longer, it will still be possible.

The point is, become informed to the best of your ability and vote your conscience. That is your duty and responsibility as a free person. Doing otherwise is how we got Obama.

Maybe the rest of us that don't want Hasbeen or Wompus haven't figured that out yet.

Then you need to do the math. Ramsey doesn't have the cash. He isn't doing much by way of ads. At some point you have to decide if you want to vote for someone without a chance and make it easier for the worst choice to get the nomination.

The available cash is exactly inverse of my choices. So, yet again I'll be voting for the least damage that can happen. Keep Ramsey as top dog in the legislature and he can keep most of the idiocy in check.

So, exactly who fits the fire them and send them home rhetoric? I see THREE incumbents running.

Kind of hard to call Ramsey a total career politician, maybe even Haslam,

but has Wamp ever had a job other than politics?

Wamp never has impressed me. Haslam is on some kind of power trip.

You have a point, grimel, but sometimes the right incumbent is good to

keep around. Ramsey has proven himself loyal to this state. I would keep

someone like him around.

That's half of my thinking on keeping Ramsey where he is now and Wamp as Gov. Haslam lost me when he joined up with Bloomberg's group.
