hey im not really your normal 15 year old. i dont really care who is dating who or care about drugs/alcohol. accually i am probably the only guy my age who is reading books during the summer. i really love WWII and its militaria and firearms. i plan on starting my collection with a M1 from the CMP then move on to field gear and other various accecories(?). then move back to buying firearms like the M1903 and other bolt action rifles of the time. i just have to get past my pacifist liberal mom ;).

WW, while you are reading up on the arms, equipment et cetera from that era, don't forget to learn a little about and from the soldiers who fought that war.

A majority were't much older than you when they faced stuff so terrible that even the history books gloss it over. And when you happen to run into one of these guys, thank 'em (for all of us). Not too many of them left to thank, so don't miss an opportunity.

As for your pacifist / liberal mom, you may have to start small and work your way up to the weapons. As long as it's just the other "stuff" (ie, gear, accessories), you can always tell her, truthfully, that you are just interested in history. And if she will learn with you, she may just figure out that all it takes for evil to win is for good guys to do nothing.

Best wishes in your endeavors.

dont worry i have been reading about those young men. my all time favorite book is Flags of Our Fathers. i wrote an essay about the flagraisers this past school year, got a 86 :). currently i am reading D-Day June 6, 1944: The Climactic Battle of World War II by: Stephen E. Ambrose. i.e. the guy who wrote Band of Brothers. it is a fantastic book and i beleive anyone who is interested in WWII should read. it talks about the airborne, and Rommel's Atlantic wall, and Eisenhower's majestic invasion. ill post what is says on the back if anyone is interested...

"It is the young men born into the false prosperity of the 1920s and brought up in the bitter realities of the Depression of the 1930s that this book is about. The literature they read as youngsters was antiwar, cynical, portraying patriots as suckers, slackers as heroes. None of them wanted to be part of another war. They wanted to be throwing baseballs, not hand grenades, shooting .22s at rabbits, not M-1s at other young men. But when the test came, when freedom had to be fought for or abandoned, they fought. They were soldiers of democracy. They were the men of D-Day."

- from the Prologue of D-Day
