I have 3 great danes (rescues) very good as far noise factor very aggressive acting when someone show up outside or the door. I'm not certain that in the right situation they would't bite. When somebody comes in the're big babies. I have been accidently been bitten a couple of times amazing how quick they are and how much damage they do. They are very good natured dogs and itsunbeliveable how gentle they are with my 4 yr old grandaughter even swimming in the lake. I tried to post a picture of them sleeping on their backs which all the're good for but can't get it to work.

Those sound like great dogs. Mine are rescues too.

We could take lessons from dogs on how to relax in style. Here is one of mine relaxing--

I have five dogs, and they as well are all rescues. 1 great dane, 1 pit bull, 1 pit bull mix, 1 beagle and 1 manchester terrier. They are my kids. If I had to "bug out" they would come with me, period. I always keep at least a weeks worth of supplies for them and several months worth of medicines for them. If I and my wife had to bug out, it would be via truck, jeep or horse, which would allow carrying large amounts of supplies, including the aforementioned dog supplies.

With the dogs I have all the bases covered. The pit and dane are AWESOME guard dogs, yet loving family members. The beagle and the terrier are excellent hunters, great for supplimenting food, and the pit mix, well.....she's just my number one and I would kill to keep her alive.

The longer you keep your dogs fed the longer you can keep them, but once they are hungry there's no telling what they will do. In case of a major emergency you may find it safer to kill all dogs on sight (including your own) instead of getting attacked by random packs of hungry animals later. I love my dogs and will try to take care of them. But, if the US is too chaotic your own survival will need to take priority to your dog's.

I disagree. There is a reason man domesticated dogs thousands of years ago. In a survival situation, you and the dog will form a symbiotic relationship. The dog either provides protection, and you provide the food or vice versa.

If we get to that point, it will not make a real difference!

X2. A dog can help us in many ways in these situations, and most likely if it really came down to it they would at least be able to provide food for themselves, especially considering most dogs will eat things that humans wouldn't even eat in a SHTF situation. Heck I've seen several dogs that like to eat out of a cat's litter box even, and I think I will starve before I take up that kinda habit.

If my dogs had a habit like that, I'd shoot them.

Your dogs are great protection. The neighbors dogs make great dog food.

I just know someone here (over 6 or 7,000+ members?) knows which dogs are good eating. Suppose we'll never hear about it, though. I guess you'd want your dog to eat a decent diet until that fateful day.
