Yep. I'm not a wheelgun guy, and one of my first experiences with a revolver was with my buddy's .500 S&W. I found that the grip made the behemoth much more controllable, and I've stuck with it ever since. Doesn't feel unnatural at all, even with my little 642. YMMV.

that's the way i shoot my 442 also. from since i first started shooting the j-frame, that was the most natural hold i could find on it. i actually enjoy shooting mine. after reading on the s&w forum i followed suggestions of others and dry fired the gun around 500 times and it made the trigger much smoother. the recoil isn't as bad as some people make it out to be either.

nope,

Strong hand thumb goes under cyl. latch weak hand thumb goes onto recoil shield above the cyl. latch keeps them both out of the way and weak thumb keeps gun from rotating to the left..same grip on all my revolvers

I also am not Jerry

Both thumbs forward same as any handgun. I think the people that have burned their thumbs and hands with the .460 and .500 are holding one hand on the grip and the other hand as a bi or tri pod in front of the cylinder.I have a scoped .460 w/ a 12" barrell I have used for elk hunting and I can understand how it happened.Mine is too heavy to hold steady with out a rest of some sort.
