Type 01 or 03 FFL? Type 03s (aka C&R License) are pretty easy to get. But to get a Type 01 is a bit of a hassle from what I hear. If you aren't opening up a shop then you're not likely to get approved for it.

I talked to a friend that owns a small shop and asked him what the hoops were as me and my brother are considering it .He advised the following .

1) You must have a store front and have regular posted hours. You can have a store in your garage but you need to check with local zoning laws to make sure you are in compliance with them prior to the application .may have to get your municipality give you a letter of approval.

2) you must have adequate secure storage (safe)

3)get the application mailed to you from the BATFE do not use the .pdf example as that will hold up your application time(its wrong) .your application fee is due at the time you submit the application.

4) two sets of finger prints and photos . The local sheriff has to sign off on your application.

You will have to do an interview with the BATFE during the application time .And inspection of your store .

Under federal law The BATFE has 60 days to to approve or deny your application. If you screw up on the application it will delay your approval .

This is all I know and I know its hearsay but take it for what its worth.

I was considering opening an online store minus the store front basically to support my gun lust but that is out . But if I can raise enough investment capital in the next couple of years it may become a Full time endeavor .

I checked into getting a type 1 FFl a few years ago. Mostly you have to have a store front as said above. However, if you can qualify yourself as a "gunsmith" and again as said above can operate a business from home, you can use that to get an FFL.
