a little boat help...

I'm working on a boat for my friend...it is a 302 ford with an OMC outdrive, i am having trouble with the shift cables and going into gear. if there is a boat mechanic on here that could give me a call and give some advice that would be awesome....i work on cars all day long but cars don't have this system on it....lol thanks, BJ -nevermind....found some other stuff this after noon and it is going to have to go to a boat shop....ugh

One possible remedy that worked for me after much grief this spring is to check to make sure your cable does not have a kink somewhere within the sheath or shrouding. An easy way to check is to disconnect the cable you are having trouble with at both ends and see if the cable will move back and forth within the sheath using just your thumb and fore finger. It should move that easily, if it doesn't, then time for a new cable, there is a kink somewhere down the line. A tech from Volvo Penta gave me the advice. Good Luck!
