Just dropping by to say hello. My name is Kevin Miracle, and I hail originally from Clarksville, TN, but reside currently in Savannah, Tennessee. Prior service military (active duty Army) with 3 and a half years, and one deployment to Iraq.

I have yet to obtain my carry permit, and also looking to find a certified instructor to get the mandatory class out of the way as well. If anybody has any suggestions, let me know. I am also currently looking at getting on with the local Sheriff's Office here very soon.

The only, and first (first purchased by me anyways) handgun I own currently is a Springfield XD .40 S&W. Pretty much the regular .40 XD you will see out there.... nothing special. It's my first Springfield, and more than likely won't be my last. I love this thing, I really cannot wait to shoot it.

I'm also a Mustang guy, just so ya'll know, and I love to race. :)

Here are some photos:

As you can see, my ammo choice is a good one. I've always used Hornady's, and probably always will. Good rounds, IMO.

And one of the Mustang, just for kicks...

Enjoy. If ya wanna know something, just ask.

Kevin, the Tri-State Gun Club at Pickwick offers the HCP class the first weekend of every month. Great club with pistol range, rifle range, trap, skeet and nice club house. Yearly membership is only $75 for a family. The phone number is 731 689-0505.

Kev, your front sight seems a little defective ...

You're in a great position from us and Nashville for gun meets.

And you'll fit right in at the meet with Capbyrd and KimberChick. Hope to see you.

Welcome from another new guy who lives just north of you in Henderson. We have a great a good carry permit man here in Henderson. Call Tommy Prince. His number is in the book and he works at the NG Armory daily. He does his class on a schedule.

Sounds like you may not have to worry about the "mandatory class". From TCA 39-17-1351:

(e) The department shall also require an applicant to submit proof of the successful completion of a department approved handgun safety course. Any form created by the department to show proof of the successful completion of a department approved handgun safety course shall not require the applicant to provide the applicant's social security number. Any instructor of a department approved handgun safety course shall not withhold proof of the successful completion of the course solely on the fact the applicant did not disclose the applicant's social security number. The course shall include both classroom hours and firing range hours. An applicant shall not be required to comply with the firing range and classroom hours requirements of this subsection (e) if the applicant submits proof to the department that within five (5) years from the date the application for a handgun carry permit is filed the applicant has:

(1) Been certified by the peace officer standards and training commission;

(2) Successfully completed training at the law enforcement training academy;

(3) Successfully completed the firearms training course required for armed security guard/officer registration, pursuant to § 62-35-118(:); or

(4) Successfully completed all handgun training of not less than four (4) hours as required by any branch of the military.

You may wanna check with the Dept of Safety to see what documentation you need. Before this was the law, I didn't have a HCP (just carried as a cop). When they changed it to exempt LE / Military from the class requirements, I just took my POST certificate into the Driver Service Center, filled out he application, paid the fee, did my fingerprints, and sat back and waited for the HCP to show up in the mail.

Welcome to TGO and thanks for your service to the country!

I never technically had handgun training in the Military. So I don't know if they would accept something like a DD214... but Ill ask.
