i just went true every single picture on woolys offroad web site,

not even one Ford Explorer ;)

a lot of customs , Jeeps, and range rovers

maybe my picture will be there as a first one with Ford Explorer.;)

Keep the Exploder as your daily driver and buy a late 80's or early 90's Toyota pickup 4wd. They're hard to beat when it comes to off-roading - especially in their price range. Very light, hard to get stuck. If you can get one with the 4 cyl 22R or 22RE engine, you won't have much trouble out of it. Personally, I think the Toyota 22R / 22RE engines are right up there with the Jeep inline 6 as being some of the best engines ever produced.

Besides, every time you dent something on that nice pretty explorer it is going to be an expensive fix compared to an older model.

I drive a 20 year old truck for a couple reason.

1. It is reliable, it gets me there and back.

2. if I get a scratch or dent on it I won't worry about it.

I gave my wife the new pretty car.

Since your in Nashville, check out Wooley's Off road (google it)

Some trails are stock friendly, some aren't.

You could always drive to Windrock in Oliver Springs but its a tad bit extreme for your Explorer since its low clearance.

And Explorer is not referred to an "X", most people would mistake the "X" as a Xterra....FYI

X could also be confused with a Jeep Wrangler TJ X model (I don't believe all years, just the later years, like late 90's or 2000 or so)and Jeep Wrangler JK (07-09); The 2010 model year changed the X to "Sport"

For Strech's benefit, the X is typically associated with the base model, the Sahara, a "refined" model (larger wheels 18", painted fenders and some other options are standard on 07-10, and the Rubicon, arguably one of the most capable out of the box off roaders produced for the commoner!

He's got the XLT model Exploder...fyi Strel, that's lingo for extra long travel.

my 2 wheel drive VW buggy will go just abiut anywhere .

i did some Snow driving couple weeks ago with my Explorer 4x4.

and it drives like tank.

its super stable ,4 wheal abs is supreme in stopping big SUV

4x4 high in snowing condition is just what Dr. ordered

i did a Florida trip to , it drives smooth and comfortable with 6 ppl inside with plenty room to spare .

im impressed with Fords Performance so far

your comment was uncalled for, it was emotionally influenced, you read something else what i said on other thread ,and suddenly anything i say is wrong

Nothing emotional about it, and I made no comment regarding the factuality of your thread. I do, however, agree with David's assessment of you from the Parenting 101 thread.

I had an '88 with a 3" lift...that damn truck would climb a tree...

Danged if I'm gonna drive my new Wrangler in the snow unless there is some kind of emergency. Why risk dinging it up when snow never sticks more than a day or two around here anymore. Decades ago it snowed enough in Chatt that you couldn't afford to stay home every snow day, but lately it is rarely more than a day or two all winter.

Back when it snowed enough to matter, had an old manual transmission G10 Chevy van that was so beat up it had dents on the dents. Put chains on that old heap and it would go anywhere in snow or ice. Icy hills, no problemo. Put it in first gear and it was like grinding along at 5 mph in an armored vehicle or something. Vans have such light rear end they are not the typical all weather vehicle, but there was just something about that model. Plus, there was no way to dent it up and make it look any worse.

The only problem was that it would pop a link on one of the chains every few miles. I kept a box of replacement links in the van. Pull off the road every few miles when a chain broke and screw in a replacement link and keep on truckin. After a few years the chains were mostly replacement links, with very few original links remaining. It was slow annoying tedious and loud in the snow and ice, but always made it from point A to point B.

According to Nashville NBC, most of the state will get 2" or less...only the 'Nooga area is looking at more. Despite that, I feel i must go to the store tomorrow for bread, milk, and eggs...and all that in spite of the fact that I consume more meat, beer, diet Dr. Pepper, and salad than any of the previously mentioned staples.

in my offroading experience which i'm a young buck,but I've took my stock k5 blazer just about all around royal blue mountain,beach grove,windrock,coal creek, and never had any problems and 98% of the trails now there are a few up windrock where a lift is a must or you better prepare to spin,dig,and crawl and hope you make it lol but for the most part my stock k5 can go anywhere my buddy's jeep comanche with a 6'' lift and 35 or 37's can't remember can as well as my other buddies jeep Cherokee on 37's in fact i've made it some places that took them more attempts to make it up.So my vote is to find a cheap k5 and lift or keep it stock and challenge yourself on driving i've got two right now and one will be up for sale soon lol :)

Yep, I've seen guys take CARS down trails I thought a lifted truck was necessary for - a good driver who picks the right lines can do incredible things without a lift, tires, etc...

I went of road in my old mustang..........I dont recommend it....the tow bill iwas not cheap.

Man I shoulda stayed in bed this morning. Somehow I just caught this thread, and Wheeeeeling used to be all I enjoyed. Till my back went out and I couldn't even change a tire for a while (and them bad boys get heavy). My two setups for this was a 88 Chevy S-10 4" lift, 33" tires on 15" rims. Replaced the "small" 2.8 v6 for a 3.1 out of a camaro, Larger throttle body out of what I cannot remember, Locked the rearend, put disc brakes rear, and a few other odds and ends. Wife claimed as hers so I had to drive the cavalier. Until I got hold of a 82 CJ. Quite possibly the most fun I ever had. I put on a small lift only to replace the springs, not so much to lift. Put a locker in rear and pos in front and new rear spindles( 1 peice), rear disc brakes again. Replaced all wiring, put in a new egnition, a few more odds and ends and I was having fun. Wife wouldn't drive it cuz no power styeering, so I was home free. I only went around the farm and sometimes would hit a creek near Pegram, other than that there wasn't anywhere real good to go that I knew of. Now that I seen Woolys, I getting the itch. Where was that place 10 years ago?
