S&W J Frame IWB suggestions

Recently I purchased a Galco Royal Guard IWB for my S&W 442 thinking I was going to really like it but as holster buying sometimes goes, it was a completely wrong fit for me. I'm a pretty thin guy (6', 150lbs) and I don't know if that had something to do with it, but for whatever reason it seems the holster doesn't sit low enough into my waistband and the grip of points way out from my body...not good. So now I'm left with trying to sell the Galco (not returnable unfortunately) in order to fund the purchase of a more suitable option (see my ad in the "Gear Classifieds" section).

So, I'd really like to hear suggestions from you fine folks on a good IWB that holds the weapon nice and tight to you. Maybe something that puts the cylinder below the belt line. Preferably kydex to save on the thickness. Thanks in advance.

Look at the DeSantis "gunhide" I believe they call it. Sticky enough to where it will fit IWB or under the belt and stay put. NO straps or hooks. I have one for the small revolver but my 442 carries better in the DeSantis holster designed for the small automatic. Less than $20.

Thanks...i'll look into both of those.

Has anyone ever used a Crossbreed or Comp Tac for a j frame? I have a supertuck for my G26 and it's the best IWB I have, but I didn't know how it the revolvers rode in the those holsters.

gregintenn - that's a nice looking setup. I like the way most of the gun is below your belt line, is that custom made?

KahrMan - how do you like that sheep skin? seems it would be a little bulky and maybe a little hot too

Thanks for the good suggestions though guys - we're definitely on the right track now

Yes, I made it. I wasn't sure about IWB carry, but so far, this is quite comfortable. The thing is that to get it to go that low in your pants, it has to be a pretty good sized holster. That photo is with a tucked in tee shirt. With a button up shirt tucked in, it completely disapears.

Doesn't look too large though...well no larger than a supertuck or other variant I guess. Nice work though

I had one awhile back for a Smith J frame in the Minituck by crossbreed.I think its worth your while looking into one.I think you can pick one up from their site for under $100.00,I liked mine but I sold the 638 so I also sold the holster. For my use I prefer the Crossbreed Supertuck the most for both my 1911,s that I carry.

That's a nice looking rig. Do you think one clip would keep the revolver stable and not twisting and turning?

I've got one similar to that style, and yes it will rotate slightly when sitting down and standing up. That can be both a good and bad thing. Good for comfort while sitting, bad for drawing. I found myself having to adjust the butt of my 642 from time to time . It mainly wanted to rotate upwards and try to slip out of my pants. Not so bad that I was in fear of the gun coming out, it just had to be pushed back down to where it should be.

I haven't used that holster in quite a long time since it's mainly in my pocket (Uncle Mike's #3 pocket) or on my ankle (Galco COP Ankle series).

I'm not sure but based off of what others say it sounds like it would probably shift a little. The only experience I have with anything similar is a bare asset from High Noon for my Glock 26...it moved a little but nothing that seemed unsecure.

Thanks...that's good to know. Something about that holster just works well for me and at the end of the day that's what it's all about.

I have a concealco Iwb for my S&W 640 with CTC. They seem to get alot of positive feedback and I'm very pleased with mine great people with a personal touch. I told him what I had and was open to suggestions. I received hand written comments on receipt on what he done. I think they are a well kept secret, reasonabe on price also. Its similar to of a couple of the holsters mentioned in this thread

Those are nice looking holsters and that front loop attachment point is a unique idea - thanks for the tip.
