Rock Rivers 9mms are apparently a blast to shoot but they have a lot of postings about problems with the mods to the magwell to secure the magzines correctly. Don't know about the Bushy's having the same issue but anytime your "modifying" an original, you tend to have issues.

Wait a bit and you can get a RRA .40 S&W AR. That sounds fun too!

If you should decide to assemble one yourself, there are two parts I recommend you use for the build:

1) DPMS A15 hammer - It is the only semi-auto hammer on the market, that I am aware of, which will allow you to readily swap between 9mm and 5.56 without making modifications to the hammer. It is a drop-in piece. This allows you to use both caliber uppers on one lower. (I'm all about versatility and modularity, which is why I love the AR system.)

2) Hahn Precision Mag Block. Not cheap at an MSRP of $200, but well worth it. This block allows you to use Colt 9mm mags in your carbine, and still use the original mag release, as opposed to one of those ugly levers sticking out of the bottom of the mag well. If your AR use is as instinctive as it needs to be, you'll constantly find yourself dropping your Sten-mag block on the ground, because you went for the regular release, and not the lever. The Hahn block stays in place with a set screw, which removes quickly when you want it to do so. This, again, allows versatility.

With these two pieces of equipment, you can use your existing 5.56 lower in conjunction with a 9mm upper. Or, you can always have a second 5.56 lower available in a matter of seconds. Even if you pay full retail for both parts, you're looking at an investment of about $225. That's less than a new 9mm lower, LPK, and stock would be.

I believe you're right, but the stock which I am referring to is supposed to slip over the extension... I have been unable to find any parts difference between the Carbon-15 pistol and rifle lowers.

If it could be done, that would be a light, handly little carbine!

Edit: I was wrong, the P97 and R97 stripped lowers are different stock #s

But, here is an example similar to what I was considering: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=85484197

My experience with several Carbon-15 guns brought to me or asked about for repairs seem to have cracking problems in the upper receiver sides and several people I know hate the damn things.

I don't personally like them and do not seem to be something I would trust to use, especially with some of the rough things I do with a gun.

I am in the market for a 9mm AR, and looked at a Bushmaster Carbon 15 today (the only 9mm AR Bushmaster makes). Anybody have any experience with one of these? Anybody heard/read good or bad things?

I have a few friends with 9mil Ar's, RRA, Bushmaster, their biggest gripes are about the magazines being held properly, I myself would go with a .223 what they were designed for,

Its not RRA. They use UZI mags and a mag well block with a set screw to hold it all in place. Once set properly everyone loves them. When they can't get it set, horror stories.

I am actually thinking about the RRA .40 S&W upper when it comes out. That way I'll have a large number of weapons all using the same caliber ammo.
