A holster which covers the trigger and holds the gun in the same position is the best way to carry and conceal a small gun

It depends on what you are wearing. I use a pocket holster when wearing khaki pants and carrying a snub nosed hammerless revolver. I also use a ankle holster when wearing thin dress slacks or I really want to hide my gun at say work. I sometimes put the pocket holster w/ snub in my outer coat pocket in the winter when pumping gas.

I carry my 642 in my front pants pocket. I wear loose pants and never carry anything else in my gun pocket. Prolly not for everyone but it works for me.

Inside waistband holsters seem very popular, but I don't like them, maybe my pants are too tight. I prefer outside the waistband Fobus holsters and long shirts.

More details needed from the OP - what will you be doing, what will you be wearing, what will the weather be like, where will you be going, what will you be carrying?

I strongly recommend the aholster pocket holsters. I have one for my Glock 26 and one for my Ruger LCP. They are shaped to diminish printing and they are well-designed to stay in your pocket when you draw. They are even made in Tennessee. In the winter, or when I can wear an untucked shirt, I like my Crossbreed Supertuck IWB holster for my Glock 19. I don't have one, but I've recently discovered a company in North Carolina making a full line of really sharp-looking Kydex holsters called G-code. Check them out here: www.gunnersalley.com

I like to buy local when I can.

I use a Blackhawk Pocket Holster to carry my LCP in my back pocket. Reaching for your wallet is a natural thing to do especially if a mugger "asks for it".

You're going to have to do what the rest of us did, which is try several until you find the one that works best for you. We ALL have a box o' holsters that we tried and didn't like.

+1

I have a "Hunter" holster that is availble on both midwayusa and amazon. The only bad thing about it is that I don't like to sit on my gun for long periods of time like while driving.

Since the OP specified small pistols, my vote is pocket holster or deep concealment like smartcarry. Of course, this only works well with loose pants. If you must wear tight pants, go with IWB or OWB. In my opinion if you are going to go with belt carry, then carry a bigger pistol instead of a small one.
