Feedback on Night Vision binoculars

Was interested in hearing any comments by members that might be using NV equipment. I am looking for binoculars and would like an effective range of at least 100 yds. Don't have the $6K to spend for Gen 4 so looking for the best lower end price in Gen 1. Cruising Optics Planet and the reviews there for Yukon stuff were pretty good for thosein the $400-$500 range.

Find someone who has NV equip. and test before you buy. I have a problem with distinguishing different shade of the same color and looking through NV produces a blur. The wife sees fine through the weapon mounted unit which can be used hand-held.

You may find yourself better off using one of the gen ne or two monoculars or one of the older generation scopes. most the 1st gen NV scops were a 4x thats plenty for the distance your talking. and are around the 400 price. you may be able to find a gen 2 monocular for similar, but image quality ont the older model scopes was ok. Really would be helpfull to know your intended uses. And yes i know you said a binocular, but most of the earlier systems werent true binoculars. most of the so-called binoculars still only have one objective lense so you still get no depth perseption. you just pay extra for the two ocular lenses

I will be using them to spot targets at 100-150 yds. 4-5x is plenty of magnification. I just need a wider field of vision than my NV scope gives and I can keep it turned off while using the hand helds.

you might want to look in to any of the night owl optic series. The night owl pro if used before and is a pretty good gen one bino. runs about 450 or so, field of view is somethng like 60 or 70 ft at 100 yards, not amazing but not bad. Light accumulation is a little lacking, but you can always use any number of IR lights to help light up the target. several good ones can be had for cheap, and theres IR filters out there you can adapt to just about any light with the right know how.

You're going to need at least a Gen2 device to see this far... Gen1 and Gen1+ devices will only see that far under near perfect conditions (full moon light no cloud cover).
