Ruger Mark II jam

Recommended Posts

I had a round jam in my Mark II this morning. Fully seated and stuck. I think I could pry it out with a jeweler's screwdriver, but that seems like a bad idea with a rimfire. Anyone have any suggestions?

Is it just a shell stuck in the chamber or a live round? Gently prying it out with a small screwdriver, or tip of a pocket knife which is usually all I have handy at the range should do the trick. Even if it's a live round that should not set it off.

although its not likely to go off, i wouldnt suggest prying it off if its live.

i would instert a cleaning rod down the business end of the barrel and push it back out that way. have done that many times. just be sure not to be pushing the thing with your hand, etc. sticking in a cleaning rod and pushing it with the ground is probably safest.

a .22 rimfire primer will not detonate with a prying motion. Takes a smack on it to make it go bang.

I personally do not like to put anything down the barrel if a live round is in there. If it goes bang in this instance there will be bad things happen.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It is a live round. My big concern was whether or not the rimfire primer would detonate with prying pressure. I tried doing a little bit of research and couldn't find anything conclusive. I'll work on it tonight.
