Bought some of the Remington UMC 9mm for plinking ammo, and thought if it ran well I might use it for the occassional IDPA match.

First FTF in a Kel Tec PF9. Then 3 more in a my beloved RIA 9mm 1911 Tac.

The reason, when the round hits the feed ramp the bullet is collapsing into the casing!!

I realize it's cheap junk for practice, but too much emphasis on junk to buy it again! :P

BTW the Blazer round in the center is for reference of the acceptable height of a 9mm parabellum round.

Get in touch with Remington and send that stuff back. They need to know that they have a bad lot of ammunition that could be dangerous.

This. A bullet seated that deep, regardless of the cause, could cause some serious pressure issues.

hmm, I use umc almost exclusively because I can get it cheaper, about as cheap as 5 boxes of federal wal-mart ammo. I know they are shorter, I've compared to wwb and federal and they are shorter, but none of them ever appeared as bad as the ones in your pics. Are all of those pics of bullets you attempted to chamber? Have you shot the pf-9 very much, that was one of the original recall issues that the feed ramp was too flat/steep. Didn't know if you just bought it used or something and may have had the original/older style feed ramp. I used to be skeptical because of the difference in length but they have always shot well. IMO they weren't as hot as wwb and i've pulled alot of bulged cases and crooked bullets out of federal boxes so I stayed with umc. Either way that looks bad, give them a call and e-mail them pics and see what they can do for you. The second to last one on the right looks scary.

jeremy the PF -9 is brand new, and has had no chambering problems with anything else, except some JHP carry loads which it can be finicky about. All other FMJ rounds have fed without issue.

Three of those rounds actually went through my 1911 which eats everything, and all looked normal going into the magazines, so they are just compressing during chambering.

Fortunately none of them actually chambered, which is a good thing as I'm not sure how they would have reacted if fired.

I do intend to send the pics to Remington, that's one reason I took them. Just wanted to let folks know there could be potential problem. Never seen anything like this before from factory ammo, even in a factory reload.

I've had Blazer .380 come apart in my pocket. The top round in a mag disassembled itself and all I had was a primed case as the top round in a mag.

I never bought any more of it. Even though .380 ammo is a bit scarce, and premium carry ammo even more so, I would carry a different gun rather than carry target ammo in my .380's.

I've bought a couple of those 250 round "megapak" boxes before at Walmart and have not had any issues with them at all. I don't know if I want to buy anymore of them or not. I'm glad nothing serious happened to you though.

Must have been a bad day on the line, I guess.

I've shot beau coup UMC 115gr FMJ 9mm in several guns, never a prob.

I've used thousands of UMC rounds and haven't had any problem, but reloads are starting to look like a better option.

I've never had a problem with UMC 115gr, either the 50-round boxes or the "megapacks", over a couple thousand rounds. You've had the rotten luck of getting ammo from a bad lot where the crimp wasn't up to spec, and, as other posters have stated, need to alert Remington to the issue, and also have their customer service fix your problem. Please keep everyone posted if you decide to deal with Remington - there are a lot of interested folks who will follow this case.

Remington's bulk .22 is known to be garbage (and I have more personal experience than I care for in that regard), but I would be very disappointed if Remington / UMC didn't make this problem right for you. Rem's relationship with UMC is something they have touted for years.

As others here, have used umc for years without problems. But I did notice the shorter length when I used some in my CZ Rami 2075. And I did have feed issues with it. Rounds were all over the place--misfeeds and double feeds. Changed ammo and no more problems. But I have since used that same box in an xd9 without incident. I wouldn't distrust it for all use, just found problems that day with that particular gun.

I've shot many thousands of Golden Bullet, Cyclone, and Thunderbolts in the last few years, who knows how many in lifetime, no higher rate of misfires or underloads than any other bulk I've shot.

Everybody has their favorite brand to hate.

Buddy and I had a box of thunderbolt .22 the other day. hat 2 out of 10 fail to fire out of the box. We had 4 different guns that were having the same problem too. They do have bad days....some brands more than others.

I contacted Remington and they are sending a shipping label so I can send the rounds back, so they seem interested in addressing the problem at least.

Someone else I heard from had similar problems and was able to compress the rounds between thumb and forefinger by just pressing them. I have a second Megapack I'm going to go through and see if I get similar results. I'm wondering if perhaps some of the bullets were just slightly undersized.

I do have the box, but didn't see any lot information on it. Anyone know where they are marked?
