What is it?

That's the toe of my size 11 foot it's resting on - it's about 2 inches from the tip of it's hind leg to it's nose and about an inch wide.

Is that moccasin original?

I think that beast may be an Eastern Hercules Beetle, female.

I don't have a clue what it is, but I found it's husband loitering under my truck, yesterday. About 2¾" nose to tail. I swear I could hear the bastard breathing!

Looks like a Hercules Beetle.

Hercules beetles are in the scarab beetle family (Scarabaeidae), which also includes Japanese Beetles, June Beetles, and Dung Beetles.

The only Hercules beetle species in Kentucky is the Eastern Hercules Beetle, Dynastes tityus, which is the largest beetle in this part of the country. Adult Eastern Hercules Beetles typically have green, gray, or tan elytra mottled with black spots (rare individuals lack spots). Adult male beetles have 2 large horns: 1 on the head and 1 on the thorax. They also have 2 small horns located next to the large thorax horn. Females lack horns.

Yeah, both those are in the Rhinoceros beetle family. Scarabs. Called Hercules Beetle also.

Males have the big "rhino" horn, the females don't.

Here's a couple with similar coloration:

Male:

Female:

Many are just brown/black, but the body shape and plate toward the head are pretty distinctive, here's another female.

It's said they are the strongest land animals on earth, proportional to their size and all that.

Yes, that's an original Sperry Topsider, with many hard miles on it. :stare:

I thought the shoe was a gatorhead at first glance. Now THAT would be a huge bug.
