LAFOLLETTE — A Knoxville man received serious head injuries this afternoon in a boating accident on Norris Lake, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

Matthew G. Sipf, 23, was riding a personal watercraft when he struck a concrete bridge pier in the Davis Creek area in Campbell County around 4:15 p.m., said TWRA spokesman Allen Ricks.

Sipf was flown by LifeStar helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available. The incident is under investigation by TWRA, Ricks said.

update: just left the hospital and Matt is out of surgery. They have repaired most of the damage to his face and the surgery went very well. He still needs a lot of people praying for him. He is expected to be in a coma for few more weeks.

Thanks for all the support so far, it really means a lot.

UPDATE! Matt is showing signs of improvement daily. Doctors are very optimistic and do not believe he will have long term memory loss. He's still in critical condition but all news so far had been positive. Thank you for all the prayers. This is a great group of people we have here on TGO
