What is your fastest handgun to draw and fire?

Funny...was just doing some tac shooting last night and headed back today for more.

G19, Blackhawk Serpa retention holster (owb). Double tap to the chest at 5 yds..2.30-2.60 was my average time. Not the fastest I'm sure. But I'd rather be deadly accurate than super fast lol

"You can't be too fast to loose a gun fight". People who have won pistol fights have stated that they lined up the front sights on the target before squeezing the trigger. People who have lost gun fights state that they just pointed and shot. According to Massad Ayoob. My little Smith revolver is still my fastest. It's after the draw that concerns me with a 5 shot 38.

The guys from OPS used to tell their students "if you're shooting tight groups your shooting too slow". Other schools look for near x ring accuracy. I tend to fall somewhere in the middle. Once i got past the fallacy of the "one shot stop" I learned to shoot faster and let my groups open up a bit.

Revolvers do draw quickly... but for me they don't come up with a consistent sight picture, because they move around in my hand during the transition. This makes point shooting more difficult as well, at longer distances. A faster first shot is no benefit if it might be a flyer.

My 1911 always comes up with the perfect sight picture, and it also is very fast to draw and point shoot. That's what inspires confidence. I may get the first shot off a fraction of a second later, but it will be more accurate... and will be more quickly followed by equally accurate shots.

My Glock draws quickly (thanks to good holsters and a huge grip to grasp), but the sight picture sucks, and the grip angle sucks (relative to the 1911). So it requires more deliberate action to be accurate, but I find it to be fast and consistent with practice...

I'm pretty consistant. Even if I'm a bit off target, my grouping is the same each time. I'm going to work on a few diff scenerios today.....after I get my ghost trigger, ext. mag release and ext. slide release

Molon is right on with the grip angle of the Glock. I was shooting my G19 and someones 1911 yesterday. I shot well with both...but the 1911 felt more natural. My Glock felt more deliberate. But I'll never give up my "Annabelle"! lol

Glock 17, 19, 22, 23, 21. Me-thinks it's just because I've trained with and used them for so long. Although it seems hard to beat a good 1911 for draw and fire. Unless you're Bob Munden that is.

I practice drawing and firing an unloaded handgun in various concealed carry configurations. I have seen on You-tube videos that you have about 1.5 seconds to react to a threat. Of the guns I carry (Glock 36, M85, Colt 1991A, S&W model 36, DB380) there is one pistol that beats the rest hands down. The lowly, old school, 5 shot, Smith and Wesson model 36 Chiefs Special. I took my pistols to the range and got permission to draw and fire. I was surprised that this old revolver was faster than any gun I carry at drawing and putting 5 rounds on target. I carry this pistol on my right hip IWB.

I think it's the small grips that make it easier to grap and pull and the light weight.

Get into IDPA in your area. It's great experience and great fun!
