NRA follow up email regarding Reid Endorsement

Recommended Posts

And there is the crux of the problem for folks that bash the NRA. It's not the NRA's problem; it's the perspective of the viewer. One has to understand the NRA's role, and take their "endorsements" with the necessary grain of salt.

Agreed. The NRA is a political organization and must operate as such. I cannot expect them to storm Capitol Hill with a bible in one hand & the Constitution in the other with a mandate to crucify anyone who does not follow conservative priciples 100%. I pay them to handle gun ownership & use legislation for me because they have the power to do so. They state their goals very clearly on their website & I don't think that language has significantly changed for years.

I can understand someone who has researched the NRA, never joined, and never will because they've never agreed with the NRA's methods & tactics. But, why are some people suddenly shocked now and want to leave? Did they sign up without ever taking a serious look at the NRA and just assume that they operate like another Tea Party?

Like any other political entity, they want victories. If they want to leave the NRA, then good luck in finding a successful lobby that doesn't know how to play politics.

Nah! Liberals are the ones that think like that. They are innocent. Progressives are evil. They are the ones trying

quite successfully, lately, to take over the democrats.

Only if it has an antennae on it:D

I'm not sure I see the difference between liberals and progressives. Power grabbing has no party affiliation. There's plenty to dislike when it comes to liberals, but I just don't buy into them believing they should disarm everybody so they can do what they want, at least not the majority of them.

I have a drill press. I'll install the antenna myself

Vote-buying at it's finest. Reid uses $61+million of OUR money to buy an NRA endorsement.

Typical NRA politicking. They would rather give an endorsement to an incumbent who could stab them in the back than support a newcomer who is idealogically sound.

The NRA gives Reid a "B" rating.

The NRA gives Reid's opponent an "A" rating, plus she's a CCW holder.

The GOA gives Reid an "F" rating.

This tells me the NRA is not worth supporting.

Right on raydog! I do not like Reid one bit but we're kidding ourselves if we think there is another organization as powerful as the NRA that will support our fight. Politics suck, period. The NRA is a political lobby and they are doing their job. After all, if they were just a conservative lobby, what pull would they have had over the last 4 years in a democratically controlled Congress?

Doesn't the NRA just "rate" politicians for gun friendliness?

I thought the NRA didn't do anything but send junk mail asking for more money to use for sending more junk mail to ask for more money

So... they give a higher rating to Reid's opponent... no official endorsement of anyone yet... no one in DC gives one whit about the GOA at this point... and you're ready to throw the NRA under the bus?

Don't think I'd be comfortable with you "having my back" in a situation.

:D I've often thought that If they sent me less request for money, they might need less.....

I'm still waiting to win one of those drawings where you get a dozen guns and a safe. Putting the stupid little stickers on the entry forms is hard work dangit!

So, if anybody wants to quit the NRA, then fine by me. More prizes for the rest of us.

And for the record, I'm no Harry Reid fan either. But I can't deny that he has a measure of power & influence that few have on The Hill. He's the master of pushing through unpopular legistlation. If he wants to court the most powerful lobby in DC, that's certainly not a bad thing. As long as he remembers the "you scratch my back" part of the saying.

If the NRA endorses Reid, since the big Pharma just started spending

big bucks for his campaign, they would be making a big mistake. Big

Pharma got a ton of government handouts related to the health care

bill. I doubt they will support him. It would look terrible associating

with that criminal activity.

Are NRA members sheep who do whatever the establishment tells them to? I believe I can safely say that the answer is a resounding NO. Whats the fuss then? The NRA supports and stands up for gun owners and 2A. I dont give a crap who they endorse for what political office. I'll vote who I think is best for any given office, not who the NRA says I should vote for. That being said I am not currently an NRA member and I plan on it but only just so I can get some of that groovy junk mail you guys are talking about.:)

And people wonder why some of us have been so negative about the NRA for the last year or so ;)

Wayne better wake up! I was going to send a check to the NRA PVF with the gun contest. I think I will

now send a check to the GOA instead. WTF is the NRA thinking? The Dems will stab us in the back as soon as they can.
