AT&T is so funny

Recommended Posts

It is a long story and I won't bore anyone with the details but AT&T has pushed my final button and I have decided to cancel my service with them.

I have had my cell with them since Cingular, bellsouth , AT&T, all those switchs.

Anyways, the short version, they cancelled a discount i have had for 9 year by sending me a letter.

I called them and ask them to put it back on my account, they said no. I stayed on the phone demanded a reason why they where removing it they could not tell me, I ask for a supervisor and ask to have it put back on my account.

( I used to do contact support work for Bellsouth DSL so I knew if you complained enough you almost always got what you wanted from them).

Also I know I qualify for a business discount though work, catch is, if I sign up new for it they lock me into a 2 year contract which I refuse to accept.

Well they would not put the company discount back on my phone, so I said fine, I am going to Verizon Wireless and hung up on them.

They next day, AT&T wireless called my mom and ask for me. I have not lived or had anything billed to mom's for over 10 years. They didn't even have enough common sense to call my cell phone, the phone that I have billed though them, which is what I find funny.

Mom called me and ask if I had cancelled it yet since they called her, the only time I gave her number was when I signed up like 9 years before and I removed it as a contact years ago. They had to dig records to get that number instead of looking at my billing number. How crazy is that.

It was on your original contract. I spent 37 years in communications and one of the duties was final resolution. However once your contract is over they are not obliged to continue with your agreed rates and service and you are no longer obliged to pay them for phone service. I actually had to pat a cancellation fee because the contract amount was more than the fee and the service did not work where I now live. That was with the Cellular portion of the company I worked for before I reaired. They did not give discounts to employees as they provided a cell phone for company use when the job required it and personal use was a termination offense. (If abused). You now go from one provider whom you refused to sign a contract to another where you are required to sign. I resign every TWO to insure my plan continues.

I was able to pull original contracts years later even after someone signed a new contract or even after they canceled the contract. If you had changed the third party contact the origional contact would have remained.

The major problem with Phone service is competition which brought on the need to cut costs. Cutting costs means cutting services. I had to buy a 500+ dollar amplifier to be able to use a cell phone at my house because I do not want a wired telephone as it would be an added expense above the cell phones.

I have not had a land line phone in 9 years. I went cell phone only. Cell phone and Cable internet.

I really wanted to get the new Droid X phone from Verizon anyways and my work place gets a good discount with Verizon as well, 20 percent. only 12 with AT&T. I have my plan figured out.

I just find it funny how they called my mom. I told her if they call her again and ask for me to say I am not there, and to suggest they call me. Then if they ask for my number to be smart with them and tell them they are the phone company and they can figure it out.

That brings up the other communications company I will not do business with. I no longer do business with any Cable company. I use satellite internet service and do not have a TV in the house. I am upset with Verizon because you can no block incoming text messages and have to pay for them per message unless you pay for texting.

You can turn all texts off. I didnt have it on my old moto razor with them. They bumped txts to 25 cents per each way. I had a friend who just wouldnt stop texting me so I just had them blocked. They store can do it.

Had a falling-out with Sprint customer service after about 10 years, then went online looking for a cellphone service people actually liked. Couldn't find anything except wall-to-wall complaints about all of the cellphone companies, so finally decided to keep sprint. Looked like switching would just be an exercise of jumping from the frying pan to the fire.

I had a similar incident a 3 years ago. I had to conference a rep from the local office and he told her it was a screw up and I had a right to cancel the contract over them charging me too much. He even said he would testify on my behalf if I took them to court. Anyway I canceled with no penalties. Now a very happy Verizon customer. AT&T customer service stinks!

I signed up with AT&T for a bundle that was supposed to be $100 per month, my first bill was $420 and I don`t even use the cell phone that much... I cancelled it, I was about to cancel my internet too but they gave my a discount about $19 per month....I don`t have a cable, I watch TV with antenna, FREE and I use Trackphone, no bills no suprises, just buy minutes when I need it...love it ...

Tracfone here ... we just use it to communicate, not to 'enhance' our lives.

Buy a thousand minutes at a time and good for most of a year.

My other cell is a work phone, used 99% for work. Was AT&T and made the switch to Verizon. I can now recieve work calls at home ... wow. <eyes rolling>

I got a grudge against AT&T and will never use them again.

They were very unreasonable pr!cks and it ended up costing them so much more than what they made from me in our dispute. It cost them at least two corporate contracts.

That was a very expensive $27 they collected from me.

I hope you let them know about the other corp. accounts they lost because of it.

Why should I?

They are so convinced they are right and everyone else is wrong.

So you pay out the rope ... make it long enough ... and let them hang themselves.

It is so easy to do with people like that, it ain't even funny.

Customer service goes a long way, I had a "decision maker" call their tech support lines pretending he had a problem.

He was shaking with anger when I asked him how it went. I smiled and told him that is why I had him do it.

Within the month, the provider was changed.

With the other account, AT&T was being considered as a contender till 4 of us spoke up and told them about our experiences. One of those people had a horrific experience with them that does not even come close to anything mentioned here. It cost him thousands of dollars to settle with them.

I am a firm believer in karma ... you reap what you sow.
