In an at will state, you can be canned for any reason. Don't tell anyone at work you carry a gun on your person or in your car. I personally do not like leaving a gun in my car at worksites due to the risk of theft. If the car is busted into, then a police report is done, the company may get the police report and find out I had a gun stolen, then I get canned. A gun concealed on me avoids that theft problem. I do carry a small handgun...usually a snub in an ankle holster or pocket holster...depending on clothes. There are even smaller guns like the little 380 Rugers...32 Seecamps...no one can find those on you. I pretty much would have to go through a metal detector for someone to find my snub when using the right holster depending on what I'm wearing. IWB or OWB and just covering up with a jacket doesn't work...at least if you really want to hide a handgun....because you may bend over.....belts are where nongun folks suspect handguns...especially under jackets. There's even the smartcarry....I've never tried it because i'm happy with my ankle holster...but look into holsters and gun sizes and if no one has seen you at church...your family's get together...family reunion...wedding...no one will see you at work.

Good way to get fired and be unemployed when you maybe bend over and pick up something or someone accidentally catches a glimpse......it can happen.

Yeah, that's my thing. I'm in IT and I'm constantly crawling under desks or up on ladders, etc... I worry about it.

I'm all for good lock boxes for vehicles. A security cable one is good--bolted to the floor is better. The problem with deep concealment at work is what happens if you have a medical emergency and either the company nurse or the paramedics "out" you while taking care of your medical condition. The boss visits you in the hospital and says "how you doing? Oh, by the way, you are fired--and that medical insurance you used to have? Well, you don't have it anymore".

Like I said earlier. This is one item that needs a new law next legislative session.

I just moved from MI to TN. MI just passed a law barring this situation from happening. I agree TN needs it.

Yep, that's simply the way it is currently.

1. It's legal to have unloaded gun in your car as long as you can legally own a gun.

2. It's legal to have loaded gun in your car with HCP.

3. It's legal for your employer to fire you for doing either 1 or 2.

+1

An employer in TN can fire you for any reason they want to (or no reason at all). But obviously you want to avoid giving them reasons.

Its up to you.

I just moved here from AZ and it sounds as if TN needs to catch on its 2nd Amendment rights. Arizona just passed laws that allow employees to keep their firearms locked in their vehicles while at work. Also they are pushing and may have passed the same type of law that Montana has passed stating that any weapon or ammunition manufactured in the state that stays in the state does not fall under federal jurisdiction. I was a deputy out there for 12 yrs before and injury got me out of the field and my brother is still a deputy out there going on 17 years. Looks like we need to get some new legislation passed here as well.

Of course, this would still leave federal employees working on federal property out of the loop, or any employees of a subcontractor working on federal property, eh? I guess there's still a lot of the latter around here in Oak Ridge.
