My dad just bought a Sar1. It is a nice rifle, but the top half of the forearm grip is canted to one side. Is there an easy fix for this? Is the top half connected to the gas tube? Can I put a strap on it and twist it straight or will this damage something? Forgive me if my terminology is incorrect. thanks, Mike

The gas block might be canted, if that is the case you might need to have it removed and properly installed by an AK armorer. If just the upper forarm is canted, check to see if it fits solidly in the trunnion. It might be worth removing the gas tube to see if it an be re-installed properly.

AK Armorer?:D 12 year old Iraqi who runs behind the jihadis and picks ups the broken pieces as inventory! Also beer cans and aluminum sidiing can work in a pinch as receiver repair material.

Mike, go ahead and twist it straight. They rotate a bit and it's perfectly normal...some are tighter than others. The top half does connect to the gas tube. Fieldstrip the rifle and you'll see what I mean.

Just don't get crazy and crack the wood/plastic.

I've got 2 SAR-1s (I love 'em)...one rotates very easy.

Thanks for the info guys. I looked at his SAR again today. I just twisted the wood grip into place. It took some doing but I got it. The front sight and gas tube aren't canted. The gun shoots good and straight, but has some trigger slap. No FTF ot FTE. thanks again Mike

I agree with Todd, it is a great weapon, at a resonable price. I have yet to exprience any trigger slap with my SAR-1's, however it is a easy fix.
