Pretty good advice so far. I will start thinking of things to tell you.

The Blue Monkey on Front Street (South End), has good food and isnt to far from you. We eat lunch there 1 to 3 times a week. It has a full bar and menu.

Lunch special was Chef's Choice...think she said butter rum pork something er other. Had the fried chicken wrap and fries instead. I had intended to go to Ferraro's but Monkey was a shorter drive. Tuesday's the business though. Turkey and dressing. mmmm. [/hijack]

FYI to the OP, TJ Mulligan's Pinch has a gunbuster on the front door.

You guys are great, I already knew about the work commute but I figured it was worth staying with my company and not starting from scratch. I will get off work at 4 so I should be close to home before traffic hits too hard. As far as West Memphis, is it really a shady place? Should I eorry about my wife going shopping there?

Just go when it's well lit. Most of the inhabitants are already lit, anyway!

I lived in Frayser until 99 and now I live in Raleigh. I have great neighbors and love where I live.

Who held a gun to your head and forced you to say that? Frayser has more gun fire than some ranges!

Noone. Sure Frayser has some rough areas but i never saw it when I lived there. My neighbors were good people and we all watched out for each other. Same here in Raleigh.

My aunt and uncle, live in Scenic Hills. Beautiful neighborhood, typically no problems.

I spent a lot of time in and around Fayser too. Never had a problem.

Yep. My mom goes to Scenic Hills Baptist. I don't worry about her being there. The police station isn't far and there is a fire station within spitting distance.

I lived in bartlett for 10 years with only one police chase and some problems when 2livecrew played at a waterpark. I owned a business on summer ave.for around 10 years . I was assaulted [by gun] 3 times at the business 3 or 4 times away from it. my last year there 3 business owners were killed within a block of me.Once I had a run in with the gd's and my police buddies warned me to be careful. Made a lot of good friends at Guns & Ammo on summer though. Mon.-fri. I went to the gun shop every single day.I also used to have a daily route for pawn shops [different route for each day], but once Cash America they started dropping guns from many of their stores. Good luck to you.

I was in Memphis a couple of times 8 or ten years ago.

I liked Beale Street and would love to go back again for a weekend. Don't even care about not having a gun there.

I am too old to worry about it.

I live very close to the SunTrust you will be working at which is a very nice area, but so is Collierville in general. If you like tacos or hamburgers, you may want to try Booyah's Burritos which is about 30 seconds away from SunTrust by car. The Carriage Crossing mall has some nice restaurants, but if you are looking for good mom and pop places to eat, try Collierville's square.

If you're looking for a nice high-end restaurant, you could try Texas de Brazil, but heads up as prices run $60/person.

+1 on Booyah's. The owner is a great guy and you've probably never had a burrito quite like theirs! I hate that they moved to Collierville. They used to be in Bartlett and I'd eat there on duty all the time.

Welcome to Memphis! Holler if you need anything! We TGOers tend to look out for each other around here!

In Collierville, a fav of mine is Gus' Fried Chicken, about 2 blocks south of the square. Best fried chicken on the planet.

Suntzu I've only met you once but if you need an extra for the road trip count me in! Always wanted to see Memphis

Beale Street and Mud Island are the safest parts of town. You can't have your tourist getting assaulted. Police are very visible downtown.

You can have lunch there for around $18, but it is worth every penny if you love meat and salad.
