If you'd been foolish enough to bet $5 that Joe Biden could walk into a Midwestern custard shop and not create some sort of national incident by uttering a mild profanity, well, it's time to pay up.

Yes, the gaffe-prone vice president with the notoriously salty tongue did it again over the weekend during a visit to a custard shop in Glendale, Wis., with Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.). After Biden asked what he owed for his tasty frozen treat, Kopp's Frozen Custard manager Scott Borkin quipped, "Don't worry, it's on the house. ... Lower our taxes and we'll call it even."

Biden initially brushed off Borkin's comment — but then circled back to the manager and asked, "Why don't you say something nice instead of being a smarta-- all the time?" You can watch a report on the incident below (video courtesy of ABC News):

Borkin said that the vice president came over to him later and whispered that he was just playing around. But the store manager reported he was still taken aback by Biden's strong reaction to his comment. "It didn't seem right, especially from someone in his position," Borkin told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. [Biden explains infamous F-bomb broadcast on live mic]

Appearing on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" Monday morning, Borkin said that he still finds it "kind of shocking to hear that come out of his mouth," adding, "I was thrown by it. I wasn't expecting that, especially from, you know, the No. 2 in charge of our country." Watch (courtesy of Fox News):

How many conversations has Biden and Borkin had for Biden to say "being a smartass all the time" thus indicating there have been several?

"I was thrown by it. I wasn't expecting that, especially from, you know, the No. 2 in charge of our country."

I'm calling BS on that one. I think everyone in America that speaks Engrish has heard Zero talk about kicking someone's ass on the BP spill.

FWIW, when I lived in the norther burbs of Chicago, Kopp's was a frequent destination for a motorcycle ride along the northern IL, southern WI countryside. All that's wholesome about America and the midwest: ice cream with the family on a hot summer night.

Nice target Mr. VP!

i saw the custard guy and the film clip on Fox yesterday.

I am no Biden supporter but I seriously don't know what the big deal is about.

It definitely appeared to me to be a joke from custard man and a joking comment in return from the VP.

I guess it would be ok if he were an actor or musician or somesuch. I think its funny. But when a store owner is showing deference to the elitist coming in and scooping his own custard as an "I support the little guy" and the small business owner asks a polite question from his overlord and gets "Don't be a smartass" back...I'd be upset. I would have thrown his ass out of the store. Where's OSHA? Biden isn't an employee, why is he back there scooping custard? What about this man's insurance? Those laws are in place for our benefit......aren't they?! :D **** Biden. **** elitists.

I saw the clip, I saw the interview. I do not believe the shop owner was all that mad about it, and I believe Biden thought he was being funny.

C'mon, doesn't this F'd up country have better things to worry about than a VP with a poorly timed sense of humor?

No, I don't appreciate his attitude. The shop owner isn't going to get irate in this economy, in front of cameras, with America's "royalty."

A while back, I saw a list of the net worh of people in Congress. Biden, at the time, was at the bottom of the list with a net worth of something like $29000. Is this really what we want in charge of the country. At the risk of sounding insensitive, I believe the threat of Biden being in charge has had more to do with the fact our president hasn't been assainated than the secret service.

People for the longest time stated that they want a regular, normal person in public office. Not a fatcat. Sounds ordinary to me.

SUNTZU, you seem wound tight lately.

I think Biden's biggest, well one of the biggest problems he has is he is a dork, and his manner of being around people seems poor.

Jack I am guessing he hides his wealth better than most. Of course he will recieve a healthy pension when he retires as well as have every helth care need taken care of forever.

You guys had Reagan when you were younger. I grew up on the same John Wayne movies and reading Louis L'Amour westerns. Now I get to live in a time when a ****ing Socialist (hey, any of you don't like the term, get ****ed, its what he is) is ruining my country. Everybody wants those of us who are pissed to "take it easy", "chill", and other bull**** that got us here in the first ****ing place. Yeah, I'm pissed. Some days I'm more pissed than others. Ding ding ding. You get a cookie.

Just thought your work crew was giving you chit and it's been building up.

Hey, its not the only reason I get mad. I'm just tired of everyone wanting to me to give Obama and his crew the benefit of the doubt. **** that. Go back and look at just the video of what he said he wants to do to the country and then look at just the bills and EO's he's passed and HOW he goes about getting "change."
