Glad To Be Back In The Land Of The Free

I just got back from the lovely Peoples Rebublic of Maryland. I was there for ten days visiting my family for the holidays. It sucks not being able to protect yourself while there. The neighborhood where I grew up and where my Mom still lives has gone down hill fast. Gang activity all over the place in the last few years. My brother told us the other night that the police helicopters where searching the neighborhood were my grandmother lives at 2 am. He had heard voices outside her window about an hour earlier, but thought it was the neighbors. There is a juvie school a couple of miles up the road and they have escapes all of the time.

The first thing I did when I got home last night was to grab my gun and I carried it with me all day today. It is good to be home.

I went to NY for the holidays (hence my absence)... Just one of those things I suppose. I rescued some guns from there to join me in a free'er state though. Glad to be back, hope everyone had an excellent holiday!

I spent new years eve in Gatlinburg and while one can carry there I chose to leave the gun behind. Being new years eve I was pretty sure that adult beverages would be flowing and there might be a bar or two on the agenda. And I was right of course.

Sometimes to live you gotta live on the edge a little. heh!

We did have some excitement. I was hanging with a nephew and his posse. They are all in the 21-22 years old range. Mostly they are good kids but like most their ages they are all about some beer when on these trips. We were on top of a parking garage to watch the ball drop and see the fireworks. Some do-gooder stuck his nose in their business and called the police complaining that these kids were all underage and were drinking. The cop who responded was kind of a dick at first but once he carded two of the kids and saw they were old enough he calmed down some. I assured him that two other of the guys were sober as judges and were designated drivers. Which they were.

I know one thing for sure, my old butt can't keep up with kids more than half my age.

Glad you made it back Eddie and utarch.

I went to MD last summer to pick up my daughter, who was staying with her aunt and uncle for a month.

When I crossed the state line from VA to MD I became a criminal. Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6 and all that.

Unfortunately that is harder to do when you are flying in and out of MD.

Nonsense. Just buy one of them porcelain Glocks like they had in Die Hard. They made it through the airport just fine. :2cents:

I went to Illinois. My parents are very anti gun, but I took it with me anyway since I have my FOID card. Of course unloaded with gun in trunk and ammo in front (maybe I can throw a bullet at someone).

Wanted to take my brother to the range as hes never shot before, but both sets of grandparents also showed up for the week and never got a chance to escape.

Folks, I hate to tell you but if I go to a non-carry area...I'm carrying.

I'll just be like the other criminals - except that I'll be able to protect myself against them.

The law of nature is prevalent over the law of man.

Same here, for the most part... I didn't want to try checking a firearm at the airport to a NY destination, with a stop in Chicago (a.k.a. Purgatory). Methinks that wouldn't have ended well.

I prefer to drive wherever I go.

I prefer to stay home.

Glad you made it back safe and sound, but if I do HAVE to go some where I drive when I can and I carry where I can. As long as you aren't speeding and don't stop for anything but gas you can probably get by. A cop isn't going to pull you over for not speeding.

I had a Glock 7 but I sold it. IT COST MORE THAN YOUR SALARY mad1.gif
