All my 1911s have idiot marks (well, I am, so what?) scratches, dents, dings, a bit of dust and maybe a dog hair or two. All fire perfectly and are much more accurate than I am.

My vette is dirty, has a trash bag in the passenger side floor and a pile of CDs in the back. It also has (gasp) been not only rained on but driven in the rain often, on purpose.

I never want something that sits on the shelf and looks pretty. The form of the vette and the 1911 is based on it's functionality, that's what makes it pretty. If some gun snob wants to judge me on the external conditions of my weapons, rock on, I got better things to do and I bought them to enjoy them, not to be enslaved by them.

Who cares about a little character mark?

My EDC Glocks look like they have been hit by a truck, which then backed up to make sure it actually hit them. But they ALWAYS go bang, and hit what they are pointed at if I do my part.

I take a perverse pride in the dents and dings on my Glocks!

count it as a battle scar, as in real life, scars are tattoos with better stories.

My Dad's Mark 1 Ruger, 35 years old was once dropped in Barrel of Acid, about 20 years ago. Still shoots good, all the actions on it work.

He told me last week, it had never been apart, but I remember as a kid when that happened and I know it was taken apart back then. It probably hasn't been apart since.

Just remember Chicks dig scars.Show it to them and tell them you were in the heat of battle and you used your weapon to deflect enemy fire. Your story your gun. Keep it clean and keep it ready and it will do it's job. I don't call them idiot scars I call them story tellers. My gun my story.(haha) Thats one reason I carry Stainless Steel easy to buff out.

Since you own a gun, you can't really be an idiot. Don't be so hard on yourself!

Well, now. There's a guy named K*** who owns a gun, and he may be an idiot.

If you really can't stand the scratch, get a dremel and some jewelers rouge and go at it. bear in mind that the finish will look different from the rest of the gun though..if you polish part of it, you have to polish the whole thing.. :)

Good advice. I did just that. The scratch is gone and the slide looks as good if not better than new. This gun will be retired as my EDC. I will replace it with my Glock 26 until I can find a Kahr PM45.

Thanks
