Revolver Rifle!

Rossi Circuit Judge! Came across this in the newest American Rifleman. I personally love the idea. Although I could do without the 410 option and bump it up to 45-70 or something along those lines. I wonder why these never caught on? Thoughts?

Well they're pretty new as I understand.

Yeah, IIRC they aren't on the market yet. They were popular into the Indian wars and then kinda died off.

An 1855 Colt carbine was handed down through my family. Legend had it that blow back from the primer cap was unconfortable. The 1855 was the most successful revolving long arm (they also made them in Shot guns). However, it was long before the Henry, then Spencer self loaders came along. More ammo capicity, more reliable, faster reloading time and the rest, as they say, "is history"...

There was a thread on these awhile back. They look cool. As I recall, the problem with the original rifles, which probably lead to their demise, was the hot gas that exits around the front of the cylinder. Not a problem with a handgun, but...

I doubt it would handle the 45-70 without beefing it up.

The forened makes me wonder how they get around the gases and or lead shaving. This style is strange to me.

I personally always wanted one of these.....

from uberti. Seems like this design saves your hand/wrist from the gas/lead. Uberti 1873 Revolver Carbine, 1873 Buntline Target

Rossi also has a new one like the gun Steve McQueen had in "Wanted Dead or Alive". I didn't see it on thir web site but it was in an NRA Magazine I just received.

Puma has it and it is a 45 long colt configured as a pistol.

Puma Bounty Hunter & M-87 Shotguns

44-40 and 44 magnum as well as a holster.

Nice gun. Has a nice price also. The gun Rossi has is called the Ranch Hand and is 38/357. Price is $536. I saw it in American Rifleman July issue along with the Circuit Judge

The Ranch Hand comes in 44 mag./ 44spl. and 45 colt also. It is considered a handgun because the barrel is only 12 in. long, and the whole thing is only 24 in.

the cylinder on the one pictured in post #1 has an sealed cylinder. No gases are coming from the front of the thing. thats why you could grip it with the forestock.

The older BP revolvers with the stock attached to the pistol grip are not enclosed and you cannot safely grip it in front of the cylinder.

The new model shooots .410 as it is also a .45 Colt.

in case anyone did not know.

how is it sealed? Must be "open" to some degree? Where did you find this out. I'm sure it must be safe to grab up front otherwise they wouldn't have released it but it must have some gap to overcome the revolving factor of the cylinder.

I have seen better pics of it. There is a shield of sorts on the front of the cylinder.

Me too. The pics in the American Rifleman aren't that good. You can see the shield in this pic.

It seals the left side of the cylinder to protect the left hand.

Seal might not be the best description. Lots of pressure. From what I can see in various pictures, the shields are on both sides of the rifle.
