I was wondering how much longer you think the gen 3 will be available nib? I've found some that are priced great but I'm going to have to wait until mid oct to pick one up. I'm worried with the new Gen 4 coming out, that the good priced gen 3's won't be avail.

Depends on what your wanting... if your looking for a g23 in gen 3 don't fret cause the gen 4's haven't even come out yet. Gen4's are currently available in 17, 22 only. With that said, I wouldn't not buy a gen4, and I also wouldn't pay more for it. If someone tells you they cost more don't buy, according to my price list and the gssf price list glock charges the same thing. I've seen different prices on them in some shops and even heard of them having a different price point, if thats the case from a dealers perspective you could always join Glock Sport Shooting Foundation and save big that way. If its one thing glock sucks at its putting out available info, i.e., their website doesn't even show any gen4's and they never did show any rtf's so theres no telling when they'll be phased out. Theres alot of glock people here on tgo and some good vendors so i'm sure that info will be passed along here when its available.

This has been a hot topic on glocktalk since January I don't suspect the rumors to stop flowing untill they announce their phasing out gen3's. It would be more cost efficient from a manufacturing standpoint but they'd lose some business not giving people options as well. I wouldn't mind having a gen4 frame on my 34 because I really like the grip sans backstraps, but I don't want the new slide fitted for the dual recoil spring due to aftermarket parts availability (they already have reduced weight and single recoil springs available so this may be a dead issue with me). So basically, join GSSF and don't worry about it, but imo the gen3's will be available for some time to come.

I think it would take awhile for them to be phased out. Even if manufacturing stops, gun stores will have them for awhile. If there is one gun you can always find, it's a used glock 23.

Glock has said they are not canceling GEN 3. GEN 3 and GEN 4 are different enough to justify (in their minds) the carrying of both. And who doesn't like options :)

Again, Internet rumor here but I have read a couple of posts on different sites from folks claiming to have recently toured the facility in Austria and they specifically asked this question. They were assured the Gen3 guns weren't being phased out.

Now, WRT pricing on Gen3 guns ... personally, I expect to see some good deals on used Gen3 G19s once the Gen4 guns are released into the wild. There will be tons of folks who want to "upgrade". Me ... I'll take advantage of their quest for "newer" and "better" and snatch up some savings.

Just don't forget that the Gen 4 guns come with 3 magazines instead of two. With that factored in, the Gen 4 17 I bought was just about the same price as a Gen 3.
