It's relatively safe to assume that they don't have concent to use that music.

same could be said about any video on YouTube...there are several videos that are edited by amateurs... not quite sure it is an "above the law" thing...

oh well, it is still pretty cool regardless, it is great publicity

I just think they're not setting a good example by breaking laws. They should think of that before making a video like this, and either use a "free" type of music, or none at all.

It's a good concept, but I wonder how long that one video will be on Youtube. If one of these guys is found to not be guilty, this will be readily available on the net, for the rest of their lives. It could be very damaging. Imagine if you were accused of something you didn't do, and this video haunted you forever. They should have put the video on their website.

they are "wanted"...chances are, they did not show up to court...same could be said about the TV show FBIs most wanted...

if I were in that situation, I would show up to court, and plead my case, I would bet that had they followed the process, showed up to court, they would not be wanted.

and we dont know if they didnt get the permission to use the songs, do we?

This likely falls under the Fair Use clause of the Copyright act. Since this is a non-commercial (not for profit), informative video produced buy a law enforcement agency, and the fact that by them using the music in this video will not have an impact on the market value of said copyrighted material, its a pretty safe assumption a court would rule that the video falls into the Fair Use clause since they are not making money off of it and are using the video to inform the public of dangerous criminals.

Speculation.... speculation...

We didn't see any mention of the music in the video..which likely would have been required IF they had permission.

I think it's a good idea they have...just poorly executed.

All they had to do is set up a myspace page, with the video imbedded. They could update it whenever they wanted. People could sign up for their blog and then get notified of every update. The dept could then remove videos as they see fit.

That's all copyright infringement is. Speculation. There are no set in stone rules. There's just a bunch of guidelines and it's up to the court to actually decide if a copyright has been infringed or not.
