I met my wife 5 years ago and when i met her she was, well i wouldnt call her an anti but just uneducated, she often asked where did i think i was alloted the power to decide if a criminal should live or die and has stated that it was all up to our justice system to make that decision.

well a lot has changed in the past five years she now is an avid shooter and has her permit to carry and hardly goes anywhere without her trusty g23 a changed woman for sure, now she understands, it took a while but she is good now and we got married in may i carried at our wedding and so did she.

she has a lot of friends who feel the same way she use to, we are both working on them now, we have convinced a few of them out from sheepleism.

sorry for the long story but i what i am asking is, is it better to try and show these type of people that we are not a bunch of billy the kid want to be's and try to get them to see things our way, or just say screw it it aint worth it and let them see for themselves? sometimes i think people learn more from tramitic experiences, but i hate to see bad things happen to anyone. what if they will not listen is it ok to kick them in the rear?

what if some of these people are people that you think a lot of?

I think the only thing we can do is to represent ourselves as responsible citizens and to go out of our way to not come across as some sort of gun totin wack job. My experience is that quiet discussion of my reasons for carry are rarely met with any antagonism. Lots of folks are not comfortable with guns thanks to the movies and the media. We have to be responsible 2A representatives and we also have to realize that there is that lunatic fringe that we will never reach.

Luckily, I haven't run into many anti's, lately, but all you can do is like Raoul said.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Do you mind telling us what changed her mind?

Is their something some of the more experienced hands say or do to help them understand, or are some people just unreachable? i cant get through to some of her female friends i usually do pretty good with the males i can just talk to them and they listen, but with the females it is like talking to a fence post, is it just plain ignorance or do these people just go out of their way to be the way they are, or are they just so scared to admit the world is the way it is that they would rather hide behind an anti mask? ( i didnt mean to be cutting on females either some of the males around knot heads also)

i think just over the years of me talking to her she just started thinking and finally understood, i went over and over everything with her for years, took her to the range and let her sit on the bench and watch me shoot as much as possible, really harped on the safety issues and it finally worked. She also understands with children to protect also, that one unarmed man or woman might not do well with an armed assailant.

Two years ago my baby sister was anti-gun, anti-capitalism, pro-democrat, and voted for BO. Today she sees what a mess our economy is in, feels unsafe in parts of town b/c crime is rising where she lives, and can't believe how badly BO lied to get in power.

Equally important, she bought me a pistol for my birthday last month and wants me to take her and her fiancee with me to the range. She wants to get familiar with guns and I couldn't be happier.

It took some work, but it was worth it!

You must pay your babysitter well! Wish I got pistols for my birthday.

Some folks you can't reach. Some have to learn on their own. these are the folks that yuo just have to hope for the best with.

My daughter once told me, "Guns are just made for killing!". I simply told her that, "Guns are what protect us from the bad people." She liked that answer I recon.

I have had one handgun for over 30 years, and it hasn't killed anybody yet. I wonder if it's defective. It shoots ok.

Most handguns never wind up shooting anybody at all, much less killing anybody.

Some people just don't want to like guns. I have friends, male and female, that even when they concede that all your facts are better than all of theirs, they just cop out with, "I just don't like them." Not much you can do after that.

Well, if he did lie, no doubt it's Bush's fault.

I believe it says "baby SISTER".

Dude, I read "baby sitter" too. That's funny.

Handguns (all guns really) ARE made for killing. Whether they do or not is purely up to the end user.

A favorite quote of the gun haters. As far as I am concerned, guns are made for saving the lives of the good guys. Unfortunately, that sometimes means that bad guys are going to die.

Denying the facts doesn't make them less true. Guns are designed to kill. Just like a screwdriver is designed to drive screws. But neither works without an end user directing them. Regardless of design unless someone directs it to do so a gun won't kill anyone. As far as I'm concerned the gun haters are just helping make my argument that outlawing the tool doesn't prevent the killing. The murderer will simply acquire the tool illegally or use another tool. The criminals fear of being killed or actually killing the criminal is what saves the lives of the good guys.

All of my guns were designed for killing. Not sure where you got yours. Most of my guns are not "self defense" weapons, so they're not subject to the special self defense verbage.

My .270 hunting rifle is designed for killing, plain and simple. Any caliber you own was designed for killing, There may be special guns that weren't, but the ammo certainly was.

Has nothing to do with our specific use or intent.

Another story of how people change their minds about these things.

Several years ago when my son started High School, he came home talking about a fight or two that happened at school. My wife made a statement that there was NEVER an excuse for fighting at school. I informed her that there were indeed times when there was a time to fight. After the argument was over we agreed to disagree.

A year later, she started working at the High School as a Paraprofessional. It didn't take long for her to realize that she had been wrong in believing that there was no excuse for fighting. She witnessed several times "the real World" out there and told me of several fights that were indeed justified.

Also, since our house had an attempted break in a month ago on a Sunday afternoon at 3:30 PM in broad daylight, she now keeps a .32 pistol handy all the time now too. Our neighbors chased them off.

Actually, guns are designed to poke holes in things from a distance.

It just so happens that most living things don't survive very long with extra holes made in 'em.
