why no .40S&W +P

Ok, so I've been wondering this for while now. I don't know near as much about ballistics as some of the other members on here so I figured I would just ask.

they make: 9mm+p 45+P .38 special +P and even .380+P

So why no .40 +p?

Just curious, I'm sure someone can give me a quick answer.

I have a box of Cor-Bon .40 S&W that is labeled as +P (on the shell casings, as well).

I bought the box around 1993/1994. Seems like I heard that they are still standard pressure .40's. I don't know why they were labeled that way.

I think its probably a little of each of the above and due to the amount of .40 shot through glock 22's and the fear of the unsupported chamber.

fair enough, but isn't the .45 pretty "mighty" as well?

No....it is a sub 25,000 psi round.

Mathmatically more surface area with the same amount of pressure = more force applied to the object in question. If a 45acp has 50% more surface area than a .40s&w it requires 50% less pressure to do the same amount of work.

.40S&W max pressure: 32,633 psi

.45ACP max pressure: 21,000 psi

Nah, if that were the case some ammo manufacturers would make higher pressure rounds for non-Glock shooters.
