Glad to be here!! I was born in raised in North West NJ, (the part of nj that actually earns the name of 'Garden State')

I've gone to school down here for several years, and am beginning the process to change my residency. Being under New Jersey's gun laws has limited my gun experience to shooting family members firearms. Looking into taking the CCW class at Fugates but right now am in search of the right gun for me.

I'm leaning towards something near a 9mm and just went to the Chilhowee Gun Show and really like the feel of CZ-82 and the Walther PPK.. Leaning towards the CZ due to price and a lot of good reviews..

Looking forward to being here..

Todd

Welcome!

Just be aware the 82 is cold war vintage, and most will only digest round nose ammo. And if you're truly new, also remember it's 9x18, NOT 9x19! Great shooter though. Love mine.

Arko, you mean you wouldn't recommend carrying the cz82? Yeah I really like the feel, need to get out and shoot one, but it fit real comfortably..

Howdy and Welcome to TGO

The 9X18 is not an easy round to find at Wal-Mart.

Have you looked at the CZ75 models?

To be honest what I did was go to a gun show and pretty much held every gun I could and wrote down the names of the most comfortable ones, researched them just a little. I have never held a CZ 75 so I will keep my eyes open for sure.. Thanks

Welcome - glad you escaped!

Haha.. NJ is a lot better than people credit it for.. costs and arm and a leg to live there though.. =]

I liken the CZ82s to "truck guns". A good reliable gun to keep in the car/truck (if you have a HCP). It's cheap enough that it won't be the end of the world should it be stolen.

That's a personal call. I carry mine on occasion and never feel under-gunned. Some would argue it's a poor compromise having to stay away from most hollow points, and there could be some truth to that, but IMO, shot placement is the most important element.

It's a great shooter too. And easy to strip and clean.

IF you get one, practice unloaded with it until you know it intimately. You can carry it as a da/sa, but you have to MANUALLY drop the hammer on a live round-kinda scary.

I'm going to working back in Chattanooga for a few weeks at least coming up. PM me if you want to meet sometime and shoot my 82.
