He said "no, I don't like guns. I could never kill anyone."

My responce to those comments:

I don't want to kill anybody either and i pray every single day that I never have to, but I also don't really want to be raped and murdered *shrug*

There's little in gun debate that leaves me more incensed than that! Why don't they simplify it with, "Please, sir. Kill me first and then have at it with my wife. You've earned it, I'm sure."

The only thing I've heard that's even dumber is when someone says that if they ever find themselves in a position where they know they are going to lose their life at the hands of a criminal, they would just figure that it was their time to go. I have an uberliberal niece who actually said that to me at Christmas last year. She apparently would rather die than defend herself with an effective tool made for such a purpose.

They don't even have a clue how absolutely stupid they sound.

It's doubtful I'll ever forget the time my sister said, "I just prefer to live in innocent oblivian." How do you fix that?!

TO ADD: For many years, she's also had a single stalker assigned to her, thanks to the laws regarding not detaining someone who sits just one step over the line into "insane" and cannot be incarcerated, but he can follow her all over town. Stepped in her office several times!

Perhaps that verse that speaks about not burying your talents... is applicable in this situation. Humans were given the ability to decipher situations, but some subset of people refuse to do so (your sister, and many others). They are literally choosing to bury a God-given ability to understand.

Just pray she matures in that area. In the meantime, thats why we consider ourselves sheepdogs... protecting ourselves AND innocent folks near us.

Not to be disrespectful to your sister, but it sounds a lot like "I prefer living with my head up my posterior".

There was actually one day ten years ago where she said she thought she would need to know how guns function. She must've been sick that day. Never heard her say anything like it since.

I've yet to see an expiration date stamped on my ass. I also don't have a digital counter set into my forehead counting down to "my time to go."

if someone is not a gun person and would rather not have them or know about them I am fine with it.

The world takes all kind of people. If someone wants to be like Jack's sister I am good with it.

+1; Some people make a good decision when they choose to go unarmed. I've had friends who've said they don't think they could take a life under any circumstances. Personally, I lost any doubt the day I found out my wife was pregnant with our son.

If they really doubt their willingness or psychological capacity to act in self-defense, then they are better off without firearms.

That is fine by me, as long as they recognize my right to protect myself and my family.

My wife is not a "gun person" and she tolerates my obsession. I have never bought her a gun or even tried to "make" her carry (as if I could do that).

What bothers me is when they trot out the stupid questions like "What are you afraid of?", like we carry because we are afraid of our own shadow.

actually I see that as a very valid question. While no one has ever asked it to me, I would point out that I am afraid of people who would do bad things to me or my family, and that being afraid is the very reason for carrying.

I lost any doubt in July, 1965 in a lil ole place called Vietnam .

I don't want the attention it brings. but I have no problem if others choose to do so.

I'm glad Tennessee's law allows it and am not saying I would never OC, but I have never seen the need as yet for me. If enough people OC for long enough, I think one of two things would result---

1. Everyone would become accustomed to it and get used to it.

2. The anti's would become mobilized and more places would choose to post.

Of course if #2 results, we would have more opportunity to boycott establishments and maybe they would change their mind.

I OC most of the time, now. Issue of comfort.

Being built for comfort, not for speed and after trying several cheap IWB holsters, I choose OWB.

(Experimenting with decent holsters can get expensive)

I ain't breakin no laws and have nothing to be ashamed of.

Not gonna be an apologist to the antis! :D
