I am looking for a carbine course in the Nashville area. I have been thinking about takeing the one from CIS but it is not until December and I am looking for something a little bit sooner.

Does anybody know of another group that will be teaching one before that?

If you go to Tactical Response you can stay in the "Team Room" which will save you the cost of a motel room too. The training is first rate.

I had hoped to train with CIS but the last rifle class was canceled due to the flood. Maybe next time.

FIGHTING RIFLE SKILLS

Montgomery, Alabama

All training must begin with fundamentals. This fundamental rifle class is designed to prep you for the more advanced courses such as Close Range Rifle Gunfighting, and Advanced Rifle Gunfighting. Through a carefully designed and detailed no BS curriculum we are able to bring you up to a level of skill in a short two day class that previously would take over 4 or 5 days to achieve at other schools.

This class is taught by our many qualified Suarez International Staff Instructors. You will learn a complete presentation of the combative technique of the rifle which will put you in good standing for any defensive situations you may encounter in the real world.

No experience or prior training is needed to attend this class and it is specially suitable for beginners.

* Please bring what you have. Any caliber or action type will do fine here Bolt Actions, Lever Actions and even Ruger 10-22 Rifles Are Welcome!!

DURATION: 2 days PREREQUISITES: NONE AMMUNITION: Approximately 500 rounds (minimum) and approximately 100 rounds for the pistol you're bringing YOU NEED TO BRING: Spare clothing appropriate to the weather, lunch/snacks and water (minimum of 1 gallon per person) for the entire day, baseball or other style hat, sun screen, bug repellant, allergy medication (if needed), chair (if you have a problem with sitting on the ground, note taking paper/pen/pencil and a boo boo kit (bandaids, gauze pads, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment and tape) GEAR ESSENTIALS: Rifle, sling, at least 2 magazines if using a semi-automatic, manner to carry extra ammo, pistol, holster and range safety gear INSTRUCTOR: Rick Klopp

This statement implies that you have a pretty good basis of comparision.

What other Nashville area schools (permanant or visiting) have you trained at?

If not, this statement is kind of silly, yes?

BTW, here's a secret. In the training world, there is no "Best." There is alot of excellent training out there, but nobody has all the answers.

You come to a forum, ask for guidance, two people who have been to Camden for Tactical Response recommend it, but for reasons you won't share you pass even though you have never been there? Really? I've been there and done that, and I'm taking my teenage son to a rifle class in Camden next weekend. I'm not trading on internet hearsay with his safety, believe that.

As for Suarez and specifically Rick Klopp, I've trained with him, too, and can also strongly recommend him. I've been to the range they are using and spent time with at least some of the guys who will be in that class in Montgomery. The range and the guys that I met in Montgomery are first class. Klopp is going there to teach the class, he's from Georgia.

Why do you want to come and attack me because I choose not to attend TR? How do you know what reservations I have?

As far as Suarez goes I may look into that class. Got to check the date against the calendar.

Not attacking you, just asking you to compare what people who have been there are telling you to whatever your information was that leads you to think it's not a good place to train. You haven't said what that information was, so I'll leave it to you to decide the weight to give it. I'll say this, I've trained with Tactical Response and I've trained with Suarez and the type of training they offer is not for everyone, and I'll leave it at that.

You won't go wrong if you go to Montgomery. Klopp is a good guy and a solid instructor and the guys who host the Suarez classes in Montgomery are good fellas and the range is nice. Good luck with your training.

LMSDefense.com They also have training around the Waverly area. Rob Edwards is the instructor. I believe they have a one day Carbine course coming up on July 10th.

Hey Red, how was the class? Did your son have a good time?

It was hot as hell, but it was a great class. It was particularly great to watch my 14-year-old son get his rifle hot and have fun learning with great instructors and excellent classmates. I'll be back in Camden with one or the other of my boys or both real soon.

I second Tactical Reponse training. I've been around the security and LEO world for 12 years, and they are some top notch guys. Suarez is good as well. The thing about Tactical Response is that they don't mess around. Their training is not for everyone, especially those that dislike foul language, and getting yelled at if you aren't moving while you're reloading. Tactical Response is up there with Pat Rodgers, Larry Vickers, Paul Howe, Thunder Ranch and Gunsite in terms of quality of training. There is no "Best training" as somebody else mentioned. Every school is different, and has a different take on things. Go train with different groups, and keep what works best for you.
