TGO Craft - 101

I'm stoked about the "TGO Member-owned Businesses" thread turning into the Rolodex that it should be. From that, I felt a desire to do the same thing, but in the way of teaching our brethren from our accumulated skills.

There are guys here that know how to work kydex, leather, wood, clay, soldering, etc. Whether it's artistic or merely functional, I know that most of us love to learn something new and were apprehensive to invest in materials if they were'nt sure they'd like it.

I'll start with offering to teach my skill of welding. I'd be happy to show those in the Memphis area how to learn this invaluable skill. Just PM me.

*Please use this only as a directory/reference list without excessive discussion.

Yet again another awesome idea! While I have NO desire to live any closer to Memphis I would love to learn that skill.

I am in Cleveland and I retired from the Navy. During that time I was an Aircraft Mechanic, Non Destructive Inspection Operator, Vibe Analysis Interpreter, Gas Free Engineer, Basic Naval Instructor(9502), SERE Instructor(9505). The last being key here. If anyone would like to learn certain aspects of survival, perhaps I could offer some help/advice. With that said, I taught survival/evasion, not long term homesteading. But I do have some good reference material.

I also handload, and have been known to cast a bullet from time to time.

SMAW GCAW FCAW 3G and 4G certified welder here, I dabble in GTAW as well, but no certification.

Also, torch work. It's not rocket science but it does take some practice to do it well.

I'm close to Nashville.

Shoot me a PM.

Edit:

DISCLAIMER: While the lesson is free I would ask that you chip in a few bucks to cover consumables.

I'm sure I could have used a little education over the last couple years in the welding

arena. Just got through figuring out brazing and a while back did some sloppy MIG

welding. That stuff's fun, except when you have to do it, maybe even a little then:D

vontar: When they took lead out of solder, that screwed me up. I feel your pain:D

Ok,

I'll play: As some of you know I'm a chef, and do it now as a sideline.

I normally charge for cooking lesson parties, etc, but am happy to work one on one with TGOer's for free who are all thumbs in the kitchen, or just need some advice on specific dishes.

If anyone needs me, PM me!

Just an FYI - I took Jackdm3 up on his gracious offer to teach some welding and - MAN - he spent almost the entire day today showing me the ropes. I can see that I have a LONG way to go, but thanks to Jack's amazing offer I'm on my way. Big time props to him for being so gracious - he wouldn't even accept alcohol or ammo for payment...

Jack,

Thanks for the offer and if I lived closer I would gladly take you up on it. I took welding classes in High School and later on became interested in black smithing which is very similar. It's amazing what one can do with a little know how and a hot furnace. Not implying that I am a blacksmith by any means but that I do try and learn as much as possible when I can

I'm no welder. But I can help people work on their shooting skills, particularly CQB and reactive fire.

If anybody wants some coaching while wantonly throwing lead down range I'll be happy to come out.
