Such A Deal!

So my friend and customer calls me tonight to ask about buying guns from an individual. Generally speaking it is no problem. So I ask what the deal is.

Now, this guy works in a retail environment with a lot of, um, underclass people.

So the deal is for an H&K 2000. Price $100.

He asked the guy where he got the gun from and was told "that's my problem."

I advised him to pass this one up. Trafficking in stolen guns is generally looked at unfavorably in the law-enforcement community.

I bought a gun from one of those...I paid 100 bucks, LOL...its a old model sigma, but dude wouldnt tell me anything about himself, or where he got the gun, we wouldnt sign anything, I made a mental note of what he looked like, I bought the gun.

I am taking it into the sheriff dept and asking them to run it...best case, 100 dollar gun...worse case, I either took a stolen gun off the streets before it killed somebody, or I gave the LEOs the next piece of the murder puzzle...

if I am out the 100 bucks, its probably worth it either way...

just my opinion...

What’s the law in Tennessee? In Illinois possession of a stolen firearm is a felony and it doesn’t matter how you came into possession of it.

I would guess our laws are a little more intelligent. No surprise. If that were the case, I would be out of business and in jail.

Why, do you take in a lot of stolen guns?

I don't think I would be buying a gun i suspected was hot. I don't need a receipt or anything but usually I can get a feel for someone. I might be wrong but my gut instinct is usually right.

Someone appears a little shifty, chances are they are up to no good.

No, but it's happened. Sometimes the customer doesnt know it's stolen.

That would be a terrific gun control act though. It's a double whammy. The buyer has no access to the NICS database of stolen weapons, so can't verify legitimacy. But he is still on the hook for the gun if it comes up stolen.

The only solution is to run everything through a dealer's books. Which I think is on the drawing board somewhere.

In pushing the legislation, Sen. Leghorn could bloviate about it being an effective method of stopping the traffic in illegal guns that is killing kids in inner cities. What a deal!
