I kind of like third. It's quiet, no sun beating down on you in the summer, and everyone seems to be a little calmer.

Plus I get every day off.

3rd Shift Patrol here...Middle TN area police department.

I actually like the night work better and I have a pretty cool wife who puts up with it. :D

Sometimes it's a little hard on the social life though.

I work the NITE shift if that's what you want to call it, 4:00pm - 3:00am 5, 6 or 7 days a week for a company in Lebanon that I cant stand... I know I should be lucky to have a job or at least that's what they keep telling us.. No social life, but I get to spend time in the garden, mow the grass before the weekend, hang out with my dogs (children) and reload, shoot or clean my guns all before I go to work. The worst part is if I want to do something during normal hours of the day shifting my sleeping schedule bout kills me and puts my body out of sinc.......... One word about the NITE shift...... SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COOP

I worked 3rd shift for the better part of 8 years. Regardless of what some people say your body NEVER gets used to it. I felt like crap all the time. It does have a few benefits but the bad out weighs the good.

After playing music in clubs most of adult life, even after 14 years away, can't get to sleep until the wee hours. The biological clock is difficult to reset.

One thing is that 'pop cultural' events get completely missed working nights. Luckily most such things are eminently useless. But entire hit TV series of the past that ran many years-- I know nothing about them unless they happen to get re-played nowadays in the wee hours.

My second job, which became my first is mainly 3rd. 11-7 Thur - Sun and second Mon and Tues. I like the quietness of it and that when the kids are in school I get to see them quite a bit, but the I \'m afraid it's negatively affecting my health. hopefully it won't last much longer. BTW - I'm at the First TN building in downtown Nashville.

I do get to see all the big wigs at the Hermitage though! :D

I work 4am-12pm so I'm not sure its exactly called nightshift but it's pretty close.

I hate it, it has a negative impact on my social life though because I have to go to bed early to wake up at 3am to head to work at 4am....blah!

Better than no job tho.

If you work in the "C" yard, and arm the lights, our paths cross frequently. I'm in transportation and get a two hour call, mostly nights. I'm an engineer.

I used to work the north end of the c yard regularly I got out of that into the shop one night a week then 4 days on the south end of the a yard.

Mike, I do, every third week. I work at Nyrstar, the zinc mineing company in Gordonsville. I'm trying to get it permanently.

I like it because you're off early enough to get out and do things, and it's quieter at night. You do your job and there's no one to bother you.

I reckon I'm just back-assward. I spent some years on midnights and loved it. Even now that I've been on dayshift for almost 2 years, I can't get used to days. On my off days, I'll stay up 'til 6am and then go to bed until 2pm. I have to fight myself to go to bed early.

Give me night driving anytime. Love it. Unless it's pouring rain.

I'm no truck driver, but I do believe that driving in pouring rain sucks regardless of the time of day... :drama:

Driving in it is better than loading equipment on a flatbed...usually. :drama:

Just started back on this crazy train. From others i have talked to, it is either love or hate. It seem that family configurations make a big difference. Having a wife and 4 kids under 7 at home makes it very tough for me. Especially considering I have another (on call) job during the day court video/reporting depositions.
