what do i need when selling my handgun?

Im selling my handgun to a guy i know who is over 21 with no criminal record, do i need anything? I just dont want to get in any trouble with the fuzz

As long as he is a resident of this state, then no, you don't need anything else. Just to be on the safe side, I recommend filling out the transaction form on this thread: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8. It's just a "cover you butt" type of thing. But technically, nothing extra is needed.

You need a coke and a smile...but personally, I would have SOMETHING...but it is not required by law.

Maybe a bill of sale referencing the make, model, caliber, and serial number. Also check and make sure the bills are clean.

Just because, "Should something happen" and the dealer sends the cops in my direction, I want something saying when I sold what to whom and for how much.

Is it necessary? Nope, but I am a rather safe than sorry type of person.

Well, one time I was taking a gun on trade and something about it didnt smell right. So I ran it through TBI and sure enough it was hot. The customer was one of my regulars. After 2 days Metro came and took it. They asked me about the seller and I gave them all the info. I asked him about it the next time he came in, about a week later. They still hadn't contacted him, despite having his name, address, and phone number.

Ask him if he is prohibited. If he is not then take the money, give him the gun. It's all the law requires.
