Imagine being fired or laid off from your job and your only means of income is in the form of a state unemployment check.

Well, you have to imagine because it sounds like a fantasy land. Last I checked you didn't get unemployment for getting fired anyway....

Unemployment insurance benefits provide income to individuals who have lost work through no fault of their own. The benefits are intended to partially offset the loss of wages while an unemployed worker searches for suitable work, or until his employer can recall him to work.

I've know folks that have gotten fired, terminated, whatever... and got unemployment

Got UI in 2007. Went to the dept with my termination letter. (My job went to Louisville without my permission.) I gave it to the lady and said my employer told me they wouldn't contest it. She said, "Doesn't matter. WE determine who, how and why someone gets it." And that they did.

It has something to do with cause of termination. There are several situations

that can keep you from getting unemployment. Anyway it used to be that way.

Maybe things have changed in this welfare economy we have, but if you were fired for stealing from your employer, doing things on the job against

their policies, etc., you could lose your unemployment benefit.

I got UI last year when the communications companies got hit with the economic downturn.

GD fired me for, and get this "not working hard enough". At the time we were upgrading 2 towers a night on some nights, and a tower a night on most nights.

the median work day for me was anywhere between 14 and 20 hours.

yeah..not working hard enough....right.

I had no problems getting my unemployment benefits.
